As we sit at SJU, waiting to board… 🥹

I’ve got just enough time for a quick post on our trip with Alex yesterday!

Always better to be early, through TSA, and waiting to board than be running late and stuck in lines - figure this can keep me occupied (so we don’t panic, change our minds, uncheck our luggage and decide to just stay). 🇵🇷😅

There aren’t many areas we haven’t visited in PR at this point (though Alex assures us, that is FAR from the case 🙃)… 🏝️

This trip, we checked a few more “firsts” boxes, with Vieques and Gozalandia, but the one place I knew for sure we had not yet been: RINCON! 🏄

It is a long drive - about 2.5 hours (one way) from Ocean Park - and the westernmost point of the island, lined up with Aguada and Aguadilla. Best known for its surfing beaches and picture perfect sunsets! 🌅

I had been told there really isn’t anything in Rincon… but having now been there, I think that’s the charm of it! Beautiful, peaceful, serene. Definitely coming back! 😍

These pictures are not filtered or edited! Yet somehow they look like this. That’s the natural beauty of Rincon!

Shoutout to Jack’s Shack, at which, the cook’s name was Tom (from Cleveland) - if you ever do make it to this area, they make an AMAZING BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich… 🤤👌

And with that, Gate B10 calls…

Don’t worry (or perhaps, apologies ahead of time) - we’re headed home, but I have a few more posts to share.

In the meantime, please enjoy these, have a great day, or better yet, make it awesome - book yourself a trip!

And until next time, PR… (thank you so much for having us) ✈️💕

After Culebra and Gozalandia the past few days (I also owe a post on a day trip we did to Aguadilla 😎) - yesterday, we didn’t mind a little “down time...” 😅

Later in the day, Alex dropped us off in OSJ - where we’ve been many times. It’s where most visitors start! It’s just so lively and beautiful, we always feel that nostalgic urge to visit at least once when we’re here… ! 🥰

Crazy to think - the San Sebastián Street Festival (SanSe) begins later this week - over the span of four days, OSJ will be PACKED with so much entertainment, and hundreds of thousands of people in attendance (last year: over 317,000)!

Adam wanted to check out “Deaverdura” - an authentic Puerto Rican farm-to-table restaurant, located near the top of the hill (on Calle Sol).

Pretty sure the secret on this place is out, as the place was full mid-afternoon with a line waiting outside…

Yes we waited, and yes it was worth it! The menu is only on a chalkboard sign (Spanish only), nothing fancy here but the food itself is amazing! When in doubt, go with their sampler (you’re welcome). 😉

One of Alex’s favorite cookie places being a block over, of course we stopped into Drunken Cookies to get him a little treat… 🥃🍪

And finally, it was TRULY all downhill from there - we wandered along the coastline (Paseo del Morro), down to the fountain and Paseo de la Princesa, stopped at a few street vendors, then watched the sun go down by the water, and enjoyed “city life” while we waited for our ride back to Ocean Park.

Something we didn’t do this time, but if you’re new to visiting OSJ you really should consider - get to the top and check out both the Fortress and the Castle! The Cathedral is beautiful as well… Amazing history in just this small area!

Also, be sure to get yourself a piragua… 😋

A couple of trips back, we got Alex hooked on Egg Joint - one of our favorite food stops on Calle Loiza (in Ocean Park).

After a full day in Culebra, we knew we needed to stop and recharge before heading off on another day’s adventure!

They’ve renovated since we last came, which… eh, kinda liked it the other way, but all that actually matters is that the food was still 💣🔥👌

We then headed west - my favorite direction to go, the views this way are HEAVENLY!! Our destination: San Sebastián / Gozalandia…

Our first waterfall was along the roadside - cute, but nothing close to what we were about to find.

We arrived at Gozalandia Campground ⛺️ and were given options - hike from there, or drive much closer and save the steps…

This may sound lazy… but in retrospect - THANK GOD we took the shortcut! 😆

Got to the waterfall area, and before you go down, there’s a “scenic overview” area…. I’m no structural engineer, but… yeah I couldn’t get myself to step fully onto it. 🫣😅

Guy warns us at the top - be careful, the steps are slippery! Doesn’t mention that they’re also different sizes and slants, steep down the side of a mountain, oh and there’s like a thousand of them.

Okay maybe not a thousand, but at times it sure felt like it!

To anybody at this point thinking - no way I’d do it, I’d just go back, wait in the car - I’m telling you… don’t talk yourself out of it! Just pace yourself!

There were people of all ages and abilities down there, and once we got settled, we absolutely knew why - this little hidden oasis felt like a glimpse of heaven on earth… (pics do it much less justice, I’ll post a reel with video later as well) 💕

The second waterfall - more steps (despite Alex claiming it’s all downhill from here)! 😆😋 but also cool to see. Where the first one seemed more laid back and relaxing, the second had a gathering of people and a rope swing! Not that any of us participated, but it was very entertaining to watch.

Able to drag ourselves out of the woods, we had a little time left in the day, so we decided to head back to La Poza del Obispo (in Arecibo) - one of our favorite beaches we usually stop at after Planta Electrica - so the guys could do a little more swimming, and me, get a little more beach time and a beautiful view of the lighthouse before the sun came down… 😎

Tunes, jokes and great conversations on the ride back - our time with Alex is one of our favorite parts about being here (let alone being on a tropical island)! Back to the place in time for showers, dinner, a little work, and a really hard sleep! 😴

Waking up grateful for another awesome day… thanks for letting us share it with you as well! 🤙

If you’re ever considering a trip, the time is now - and Alex is your guy!

Our friend, Heather, scrolled upon a TikTok video of these adorably edible jiggly (jelly) cats right before we left for our trip.

The video was from a shop in Puerto Rico, so of course, we said we’d try to find them… WE DID! And Alex got us there. 🤘

First, he took us through Santurce and showed us a) our nearest local Walmart (inside a parking ramp, the line to get in was INSANE! 😅), and b) the murals on Calle Cerra (a former industrial area currently undergoing a really awesome urban redevelopment).

Our main destination was called Hotkei Asian Bakery & Collectible Shop (in San Juan). Apparently they have a pop up shop as well, but this is their “main location.”

Walking in, it felt like an odd combination of the game shops from back home (with all of the collectible cards, etc.) and a creatively unique bakery.

The cats!! Oh man… the cats were ADORABLE!! 😍 There were a few different flavors - I got Cookies & Creme, Adam got Strawberry Matcha…

They also had Korean Cream Cheese Buns and different varieties of Japanese Cheesecake - both of which we’ve made at our bakery shop back home! Always cool to see and try similar works, for fun comparison. 😋

I felt TERRIBLE digging into my kitty with that sharp plastic spoon… but I did it (butt first 🥹😆)!

And with that, I’ll say - glad I tried it, still ADORABLE, but that’s probably a first and last for me.

Adam had no problem taking down both - said it was like a sweet, molded jello. 🙃

We took a (Ferrero Rocher) Japanese Cheesecake to split later… that right there made up for it all! 👌💕

Definitely not the first place you’d think of visiting, of all the things to do on the island… but also unique enough that it may, to you, be worth the stop.

After all, how often do YOU come across a jelly cat?? 😍

Shoutout again to Heather Jo for the recommendation… 🤙

Happy Monday! ☀️

Breakfast yesterday in Ocean Park, at Lela's….

We stopped here last year - it was too good to NOT go back!! 🥞👌

I got Lela's Bruleé Toast (again, predictably); Adam got the Big Johnny - Sweet and Sour Chicken on Waffles, topped with Eggs and Hollandaise (also with roasted Potatoes). SO GOOD!

Alex picked us up back at our place (also on Calle McLeary) - and we were on a mission… for MOONSHINE! 😜🤘

Technically, here it's called "Pitorro" - a traditional Spirit primarily made from sugarcane, often infused with fruits like coconut, pineapple, mango, etc. 🥥 🍍

According to Alex, the best place to find it (or at least today) - was Arroyo.

Arroyo is directly south of San Juan, just over an hour away, along the southern coast of the island.

Fun fact - "arroyo" means "creek" or "brook"! 💡

We found the Moonshiners there - Sabores de mi Tierra - with over 125 different flavors (and lots of samples to share)! 😋

I (Kim) am not a drinker (shopping for a loved one back home 👋)… but it seemed Adam and Alex preferred the Soursop (Guanabana), with Apple Grape (Manzana Uve) in a close second.

After a quick wander, couple photos, and yes - Alex casted a few lines in the water 🎣 😅, we headed to La Casa de los Pastelillos (or as Adam says, Pastadillos 😆) in Guayama.

This place was busy, but seemed to have a system in place for it - the menu is HUGE, as are the Pastelillos, and the ocean view while you eat is beyond amazing. They even have hammocks set up on the beach! 🏝️💕

Afterwards, we were VERY full, but Alex wanted to find another place yet to hang out. It's tricky sometimes - on a Sunday, in a different area of the island - to find somewhere to go…

But with the help of Google, and his amazing wife (Mara)... we found ourselves creeping past a Three Kings festival! 🎄

Upon finding a (completely legal 🤙) place to park, we wandered around, took photos and listened to live music - it was really fun to see so many people out enjoying and celebrating together! 💃🕺

After the festival, we headed back to Ocean Park... another over hour drive, but that's also kinda part of the fun - more time for bad jokes, good laughs, and questionable music choices. 😂

…I'm sure I've been told a few times where we're going today... but as usual, I can't actually remember what that is! Regardless, we're excited - because we know with Alex, it's always going to be a great time! 🙃🥰

Will be sure to post more as we go - have a great day, and if you're bored... this could be YOU next! BOOK THAT TRIP!!!

Hey there! 👋

No, this isn’t Alex - I’m Kim! ☺️

My husband, Adam, and I met Alex a handful of years ago on one of our first trips to Puerto Rico… 🇵🇷

Now we trade year-round beach pics 🏝️ vs. frozen tundra photos ❄️ (from WI - the Land of Packers and 🧀) while Adam and I find ways to justify another visit!

Makes sense that so many people are also looking at PR as a vacation destination - it’s tropical ☀️, and there’s so much to do! Even better… you don’t need a US passport!! 😎

I’ve asked Alex to let me share our experiences this time, hoping it inspires more of you to BOOK THAT TRIP!!

With or without Alex, it truly is the most beautiful place! …though I’ll tell you, it’s a lot more fun when you’ve got him hauling you around! 😆

Today, we did something NEW! Normally we go to Culebra (an island off the island), but instead, we took the 5am ferry from Ceiba to Vieques! ⛴️

We got there around 6 - still dark, other than a very bright full moon! 🌕 Nothing was happening at the port, so we taxied south to Esperanza to wait for Fun Brothers… (who opened promptly at 9 🫠). We rented our golf cart (Mule) from them - it was comfortable and roomy!

Also, no speakers! Which may have contributed to us then harassing the rest of the islanders, pretty much the rest of the time… (it DID have a horn 😅). !!! 😂

When I say “islanders,” don’t worry - on Vieques, half of the population are horses… no really, they’re wandering around literally everywhere! 🐴🐴🐴

We made friends with a few of them at Caracas… 😋

In addition to seeing a whole bunch of iguanas - right there at the beach! 🏖️

A shout-out to some awesome ACTUAL islanders, though - if you’re ever in the area, stop in for breakfast at Kristy’s! We got the Big, Sweet & Nasty (in pics), but Alex’s FAT Turtle Cheesecake Pancakes looked pretty 💣🔥👌

They also had CLEAN bathrooms - AND let us use them! Which, on an island… can be a very rare thing…

Lots of beaches and beautiful views, like at Punta Negra - it was definitely worth a trip!

But we’ve decided, or at least for now… Vieques is much larger and busier, compared to Culebra. Culebra feels more like a cozy day trip, whereas Vieques is more of a spread-out, multi-day destination.

Overall, we find Culebra to be more “charming.” Though there are definitely fewer food/drink/shop-type options. The guys think it’s also better for snorkeling… 🤿🐠💕

The only way to know for certain - we need to get back to Culebra ASAP!

So please enjoy these photos (from our day today in Vieques)…

And we’ll post some newer ones of Culebra this coming Thursday, for comparison! !! 😉😉🤙

It’s gonna be a great day… 😎🤙🇵🇷☀️
