ABSOLUTE has recently supplied with a collection of fully-rebuilt Merriman and Southcoast geared bronze winches for the M-Class AVATAR. Model sizes #6 and #7.

Merriman and Southcoast produced this type of winches for racing yachts and ocean racers between the 1930s up to the 1970s.

The M-Class AVATAR was designed to the Universal Rule by Starling Burgess in 1927 and built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 1928.

AVATAR is one of the two surviving M-Class yachts. The other being SIMBA.

Congratulations Falcon Q-16 for the outstanding season race results at Cassis, SanRemo and Voiles d’Antibes: 11 first in 11 regattas (and several Line Honors). Outstanding!!

FALCON is a Universal rule "Q" Class Racing Yacht designed by Frank C. Paine in 1929, she was built by George Lawley and Sons, Boston, Massachusetts in 1930.

Frank Paine was a renowned yacht designer and long-time associate of Starling Burgess or Belknap & Skene, all famous American designers.

FALCON was acquired by Patrick de Barros, who entrusted ABSOLUTE to have her restored and optimized for the CIM Classic Yacht Circuit.

FALCON had a successful racing season in 2023 and 2024 winning the Porquerolle's Classics, Les Voiles du Vieux-Port, Marseille, the Regates Royales, Cannes...

FOXHOUND has just turned 90 years old; she was launched on the 1st of June 1935.
She won her first race "The Royal Thames Yacht Club Trophy" twenty days after her launching party.

FOXHOUND was the first of a new breed of ocean racing yachts, designed by Charles Nicholson in 1934 and built by Camper & Nicholson in 1935, to Lloyd's 12mR class rules.
This time machine is under a meticulous restoration in our boatyard.

The Ocean Racer VALHALLA's mast and rigging was installed on the early days of February.
Both main and mizzen mast were built according to the original spar geometry made by John Alden in 1948. The construction details and mast fittings was all custom engineered and made by Absolute.
Highest specification of Alaska Sitka Spruce was supplied by our long time and premium business partner John Lammerts van Bueren from Touchwood BV .
VALHALLA will be launched within a couple weeks.

TORNADO was a silver medal in the Dragon Class in the 1952 Olympic Games in Finland and was sailed by the famous swedish Helmsman Per Gedda. TORNADO was originally built in 1935 by the Hjalmar Johansson’s Boatyard in Sweden – sail number S74.
We have recently found her stored in a warehouse. She is now for sale since she fully deserves to be restored to her former glory and includes a fantastic period trailer.

And it’s this way we say goodbye to 2022.

John Lammerts van Bueren , a great friend, emailed us a few weeks back about FOXHOUND: "What makes her exciting to me is that she’s largely original, exterior and interior... hardware, joinery you name it, she’s like a time machine, actually incredible. Her planking is original and largely intact. Interior original and intact. Both need scraping back and restoring but the material is largely in excellent condition (all Teak, Honduras Mahogany and Honduras Cedar). Her deck is in bad shape and needs replacement. The hardware however is amazing and largely original.
I have been on board some 20 years ago when she was in Lisbon, knocked me of my socks !”

This project was requested to us by the owner of the CCA ocean racer SEA LION. These are trophies made with the previous bronze bulwark fairleads and deck cleats that were originally mounted on the yacht. What a beautiful recall of the service years on board!

Frank C. Paine "Q" Class yacht FALCON, arrived at our main shed. She is an amazing classic racer with beautiful lines and she'll be receiving a total refit before returning to the next year's med season. Here are some photos.
