The 2025 Executive Nomad Ranking is more than a list — it’s a preview of the future.

The destinations rising to the top have one thing in common:
they are intentionally designing for digital talent.

Portugal is proving what happens when cities invest in real infrastructure and community.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Malta treat nomads as part of their national talent strategy.

Roatán is showing how governance innovation can attract a global remote workforce.

Meanwhile, many regions are still missing from the picture — not because they lack quality of life, but because they haven’t built the foundations: visas, incentives, remote-friendly ecosystems.

This is the wake-up call:
digital nomads are the new front door for talent, capital, and entrepreneurship.

Cities that act now will lead the next decade.

Those who wait will watch opportunity go elsewhere.

Let’s shape the future of remote work, together 🌍

The “Why” Behind NomadX 👇

At NomadX, everything starts with one belief:
life is richer when we don’t have to do it alone.

We are digital nomads ourselves - we know the thrill of new cities, the freedom of remote work… and the loneliness that can sneak in between flights, coworking sessions, and check-ins.

That’s why NomadX exists.
To turn places into connection points.
To transform strangers into community.
To make every destination feel a little more like home.

We are on a mission to build real, on-site communities around the world - powered by meaningful relationships, shared experiences, and the joy of living life fully, together.

This isn’t just a lifestyle.
It’s a movement.
And we’re just getting started 🌍✨

🚨 Barcelona Just Banned Airbnb — But What’s Next? 🏙️

Barcelona is taking bold action: by 2028, all short-term rentals (like Airbnb) will be banned. The goal?

✔️ Reclaim housing for locals
✔️ Reduce overtourism
✔️ Restore balance to one of Europe’s most-visited cities

But here’s the twist: instead of shutting out visitors completely, cities like Barcelona may be turning to digital nomads — long-term, remote workers who integrate into the community, spend locally, and stay longer.

Could “better tourism” replace mass tourism?

And will Barcelona’s model become the new blueprint for global cities? 🌍

💬 What do you think — will banning Airbnb save or hurt cities like Barcelona?

💰 Where Smart Digital Nomads Pay LESS Taxes in 2025 🌍

The “tax-free nomad” fantasy is over.

Instead, governments are competing to attract remote workers with strategic tax benefits - and it’s working.

Here are some of the hottest hubs for nomads right now:
🇵🇹 Portugal: D8 visa + 20% flat tax (IFICI) for 10 years
🇦🇪 Dubai: 0% tax, global banking access
🇨🇾 Cyprus: Non-dom status for foreign income
🇹🇭 Thailand: 17% flat tax with LTR visa
🇮🇹 Italy: 7% flat tax in select regions
🇬🇷 Greece: 50% tax cut for 7 years

Nomads aren’t avoiding taxes - they are choosing smarter places to pay them.

Let’s bust a myth💥

Digital nomads DO work - we just swapped cubicles for cafés, coworks, and ocean views 🌴💻

At NomadX, we mix deep work with deep connection.

Portugal isn’t over - it’s evolving 🇵🇹

Lisbon may no longer be the budget-friendly paradise it was in 2019, but Portugal still offers one of the best lifestyles in Europe for digital nomads.

✅ Ocean, surf, culture, and a truly human pace of life
⚠️ Rising rents + overtourism in Lisbon
🌍 Smarter nomads exploring Porto, Ericeira, Algarve & hidden gems like Alentejo

💡 Tip: Skip July & August - the best months are spring and autumn.

👉 Portugal is still worth it in 2025… if you meet it on new terms.

Our first days of the Próspera Experience has been something special ✨

We’ve been settling into island life with rooftop BBQs sunsets, tacos by the ocean, and even a little pickleball. In between the play, we’ve had deep conversations, coworking with ocean views, and a chance to meet the people shaping this place.

It’s only been a few days, but the mix of work, connection, and adventure already feels like a new rhythm of living. Excited to see where the next days takes us 🙌

🚀 Brazil just took a bold step into the future.
Yesterday, we signed a historic agreement between NOMADX and EMBRATUR - Brazilian Tourist Board.

I first met Marcelo Freixo, Embratur’s president, two years ago at BTL Lisbon.

We spoke for nearly an hour about the transformational potential of digital nomads for Brazil — and how a new global vision could reshape the future of tourism in the country.

Now, that conversation has turned into action!

This agreement marks the beginning of a strategic alliance to position Brazil as one of the world’s leading destinations for the 40+ million digital nomads.

🇧🇷 From the beaches of Rio to the heart of the Amazon, Brazil has everything:
- Cultural depth
- Natural beauty
- Warm, welcoming people
- A hunger for innovation
- And an incredible pool of inredible talented people

This is a global shift on how tourism boards all around the world see our community. A signal that our community is being seen and taken seriously.

For Brazil, it represents a national commitment to long-term, sustainable, digital-first development powered by community, creativity, and international connection.

With visionary leadership from cities like Rio de Janeiro, and the incredible work of Dani Maia and her team at the Rio Tourism Office, we now have momentum to inspire a continent-wide movement.

🇸🇦 South America is rising.
And something special is unfolding here…

More on that in a future post. 😉

🔥 Which city in Brazil do YOU think should become the next digital nomad hotspot?

Drop it in the comments 👇 I’ll share my favorites soon.

Remote Year is closing it’s business.

What went wrong?

Remote Year is one of the oldest businesses in the digital nomad economy, the first of its kind.

Since 2015 Remote Year helped thousands of people stepping their foot into the digital nomad space, start their businesses in the industry, travel the world, connect with like minded people... Now it’s gone.

Remote Year got some things wrong imo.

The 1st one was that they accepted VC capital to grow, which added an immense pressure for growth at all costs.

The 2nd is that during the pandemic they were acquired by Selina and now they went down with Selina, being blocked by the new ownership.

Pieter Levels and other people were interested in buying the brand but sadly it was not possible by the new ownership of Selina and RY.

It will always be in the history books as one of the companies that helped grow and expand digital nomadism, it will be missed in the community.

Thank you to everyone who were part of this project, specially Tue Le who led the company for so many years.

Hope that the team finds their next project soon, maybe we should create the RY 2.0? :)
