Follow the river past Parque das Nações and onto the boardwalk through the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve. Flat, calm, family friendly, easy going ride!

There are dedicated birdwatching spots along the way, if you're lucky you might spot some flamingos.

Nisa, a small town in the north of Alentejo and well worth a visit.

Its streets are unique — the cobblestones are laid in intricate patterns inspired by olaria pedrada, a traditional local craft where clay pieces are decorated with small white quartz stones.

Thermal waters, medieval castle walls and the quietness of the Alentejo.

The Minho's Alvarinho region is something special.

You ride through vineyards as far as you can see — this is Alvarinho country, and the vines are everywhere.

Forest roads where you stop, lay the bike down on the grass and just sit for a moment.

Villages with those incredible stone "canastros" (used to store corn in the old days). And in summer, the towns dress up — colourful arches over the streets, decorations everywhere, and if you leave early enough you have it all to yourself.

It's green and it feels nothing like the rest of Portugal.

End you day or your ride with a nice glass of cool, fresh Alvarinho W**e.

One of our favourite regions to ride.

Portugal's southwest coast is something else.

Big cliffs, wild ocean, fishing villages and a largely intact nature reserve.

The EuroVelo Route 1 and the Costa Vicentina Route are two of the most popular ways to ride it — on road or on trails, just pedal your way.

This is a ride for people who want an active holiday but don't want to stay in one place. Cycle in the morning, swim at midday, find a good dinner, and do it all again the following day.

Hot day ahead in Lisbon? Here's what you do.

Grab a bike, head west along the river — 15km, completely flat, no hills — and end up at Caxias Beach.

The ride takes you through Belém, so you pass the Torre de Belém and the Monument to the Discoveries along the way.

At Caxias you have São Bruno fortress right above the beach, and the Quinta Real de Caxias gardens across the road if you need shade.

City bike or e-bike, both work perfectly. Back in Lisbon in time for dinner.

We rent from central Lisbon — hourly or daily.

Sintra.

A UNESCO World Heritage forest, hidden palaces, and gardens that don't feel entirely real — and you arrive here by bike, through the trees, after 8 days on Portugal's West Coast.

Porto to Aveiro. Nazaré's waves. Óbidos castle walls. The Atlantic all the way down to Ericeira. And then Sintra.

Some finishes are worth the whole journey.

The West Coast Porto to Sintra self-guided cycling tour. 8 days. Premium and casual options available.
