CJR Renewables was awarded Gurbanesti Wind Farm | A New Utility Scale Onshore Wind Farm in Romania
The Gurbanesti Wind Farm, promoted by Greenvolt Power, stands as one of the most significant onshore wind developments currently advancing in Romania. The Gurbanesti Wind Farm will incorporate 42 GE Vernova turbines and will sum up to 252 MW.
Located in Călărași County, CJR Renewables has been awarded the Gurbanesti South Wind Farm, the main portion of the Gurbanesti Wind Farm. The project will incorporate 29 GE Vernova 6.1 MW turbines, each equipped with a 158 metre rotor, achieving a total installed capacity of 176.9 MW.
CJR Renewables will be responsible for the complete EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) scope, including:
• Engineering (roads, hardstands and MV voltage systems)
• Internal and access roads
• Foundations
• Permanent and temporary platforms
• MV line installation
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion expected around 2027.
Together with the Ialomița Wind Farm — also built by CJR Renewables — Gurbanesti forms part of a wider portfolio of onshore wind assets that will add nearly 500 MW of new capacity to the Romanian grid. These developments have been highlighted by national media as some of the largest private renewable energy investments currently in progress in Romania, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to expanding clean energy generation towards its 2030 targets.
In aggregate, the Gurbanesti project and its associated assets are expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 110,000 homes per year, strengthening Romania’s energy security and accelerating the country’s transition to large scale renewable power.
