The Camino is calling… but I can’t go. 🥾

Usually, I always have a Camino planned, but September and October are so packed with work that I simply can’t squeeze one in. I'm simply too busy with supporting other people's Camino to go on my own.

The good thing about living in Porto? I’m always close to the Camino. ❤️ So whenever we get a few sunny days this winter, I’ll definitely be heading back out.

I’m even thinking about walking the last 100 km of the Camino Francés - maybe in January or February, when hardly anyone else is out there.

A quiet Camino, cold mornings, empty paths… honestly, that sounds pretty perfect to me. 🌿

Would you walk the Camino in winter?

“You don’t need to pay a Camino planner to walk a Camino!”

He’s right. You don’t!

🍝 You don’t need to go to a restaurant - you can cook at home.

💅 You don’t need a manicure - you can do your nails yourself.

🏋️ You don’t need a personal trainer - you can go to the gym and lift weights.

🧹 You don’t need a cleaner - grab the broom yourself.

🎨 You don’t need a painter for your renovation - grab a brush and get to work.

🚚 You don’t need a moving company - rent a truck and ask your friends to help.

💻 You don’t need a tax consultant - the information you need is available online for free.

And you certainly don’t need a Camino planner.

You can plan your entire Camino yourself. You can research the routes, find your own accommodation, figure out transportation, organize luggage transfers…
Of course, you will miss some things as a first-timer and spend a lot of time, but you will save money.

You don’t need one. But you might want one. And those are two very different things. 😉

My first Camino was the coastal version of the Camino Portugues. When I heard that there’s a Camino along the coast that is doable for beginners, I was all in. And I never regret my decision.
Even after spending 4000 km on Camino, the Senda Litoral will always have this special place in my heart.
I don’t care if it is certified - it is recognized by the pilgrim office in Santiago. And it already has been nine years ago when I walked it.

If you want to hear more about the option to walk along the ocean for 12 to 14 days, book a free consultation on my website

Walking a Camino with your dog - a great idea or a sh*tty one?
I have so much to say about this topic that it wasn’t impossible to squeeze it into one video. And unfortunately, my microphone failed 🙄

The short answer is: it can be an incredibly wonderful experience. But it is not for everyone and not for every dog. Let’s have a chat and speak about if you and your dog are a good team to go on Camino together!

You may have heard of the Variant Espiritual of the Camino Português. It’s just a little detour - and it ends with a boat ride. Instead of taking the boat, you can also walk the last stage.

🔥 Wildfires & the Camino - should you be worried?

Northern Portugal has been lucky enough to avoid most of the heat waves this summer. But right now, part of the Camino Português is closed because of a wildfire - and almost every Camino route can be affected by wildfires during the hottest months of the year.

I completely understand why this worries pilgrims who are planning to start their Camino. My clients often contact me when they hear about wildfires in Portugal or Spain, even when the fire is nowhere near their route.

But there’s something important to know: Portugal and Spain know how to deal with wildfires.

It’s not usually a case of walking through a forest and suddenly finding yourself surrounded by flames. A much more realistic scenario is that you’re walking your Camino and suddenly reach a section that has been closed. You then need to find an alternative route.

Or, if you’re my client, I find one for you. 😁

You might smell smoke, see helicopters or notice emergency services in the area. That can obviously be unsettling, but it doesn’t automatically mean you’re in danger.

What you should do is stay informed about fires in the area you’re walking through. If you’re not working with someone local who can keep an eye on the situation for you, that responsibility is yours.

And remember: a wildfire somewhere on the Camino does not automatically mean you need to cancel your Camino. It means you may need to adapt your plans.

And if you’re Camino is still ahead of you, there is no reason to worry at all. Usually this fires are under control within a few days.

Have a great Camino and stay safe!

Keep your shoes on!!! 🥾

I know, especially in this heat, your feet are hot, sweaty, and desperately want some fresh air - but so do the people eating in the restaurant. 😅

Taking your shoes off where other people are eating is simply a matter of respect.

And I say this as a fellow pilgrim, with all the understanding in the world. But if we pilgrims want to feel welcomed by the locals, we also have to remember that we’re stepping into their everyday lives - and we should try to disturb them as little as possible.

Your feet can wait until you’re outside. 😉

Reasons to follow or unfollow my account.

I usually don’t follow social media trends, but I liked this one, so I decided to join.

I never expected that becoming a Camino planner would involve so much self-presentation. But to survive as a freelancer in 2026, you have to show up in front of the camera. And honestly, that’s not something I particularly enjoy.

I think the audience can feel that, too. I love sharing my knowledge in 1:1 conversations, answering questions and helping people plan their Camino. But talking to a camera? That’s just not my thing. I don’t have the stage gene.

Fortunately, I do have the Camino gene. 😉

So I hope you’ll stick around for the knowledge, the honest advice, and everything I’ve learned from thousands of kilometres on the Camino.
