🇦🇹 The Făgăraș Mountains in Kleine Zeitung

The Făgăraș Mountains, their wildlife and the work to protect this landscape are featured in a recent travel story in Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung.

Journalist Klaus Höfler travelled through the region to experience its forests, wildlife and growing approach to responsible tourism — from signs of bears and encounters with European bison to hiking and riding in the mountains.

The story also looks at the conservation work of Foundation Conservation Carpathia, our parent organisation, which has been working since 2009 to protect and restore the Făgăraș Mountains and their wildlife, while building the foundations for a future Făgăraș National Park.

Travel Carpathia is part of this wider effort, connecting conservation with responsible tourism and creating opportunities for visitors to experience the landscape while supporting local communities and conservation. The article features several of these experiences, including Equus Silvania, Poiana Tămaș Wilderness Camp and the Comisu Wildlife Hide.

We’re very happy to see Travel Carpathia featured in WELT following journalist Maike Grunwald’s visit to the Făgăraș Mountains last September.

From the COBOR - ferma de biodiversitate/biodiversity farm to the Comisu wildlife hides and Poiana Tămaș Wilderness Camp, Maike spent several days exploring the landscapes, wildlife and people that make this part of the Carpathians so special — including a memorable encounter with a European bison in the mist.

În urma extragerii, norocul a fost de partea Sorinei Hasu din Brașov. 🐎🌿
Își va petrece două nopți la Centrul de echitație și explorarea naturii Equus Silvania.

Josh & Caitlin joined us at Bunea in September 2025 and spent time immersed in the quiet rhythm of the Făgăraș wilderness.

“It was a perfect stay.”

From the guestbook — Bunea Wilderness Cabin

Some experiences are difficult to describe — until someone writes them down in a guestbook.

During a September stay at Bunea, one guest described watching a bear for nearly an hour after arrival, spotting a wild boar during the night, and waking to another bear the next morning.

Here’s part of what they wrote:

“We had an amazing overnight stay here at Bunea. We already saw a bear during arrival and could observe it for nearly one hour.”

And perhaps the simplest summary of all:

“It was a perfect stay.”

“Seen our first ever bears… I cried!”

Some experiences are difficult to describe — until someone writes them down in a guestbook.

Jade & Isaac stayed with us at Bunea in June 2025 and experienced pristine wilderness, wildlife encounters, quiet evenings in the hide, and seven unforgettable bear sightings.

Here’s part of what they wrote in our guestbook:

“We’ve had the most amazing time at Bunea! Seen our first ever bears (7 sightings in total — I cried!) and really enjoyed being in and enjoying this pristine nature…”
