Today, I clocked out for the very last time as a Medical Officer in KKM.
After years in the system, I leave with a heart full of mixed emotions—some sadness in my eyes, a lot of gratitude in my heart, and even more hope in my steps. This chapter ends, but the story continues. The road ahead may be uncertain, but I know now more than ever: I can handle it.
To be honest, it hasn’t been easy. We've all felt the weight of the long hours, the chronic shortage of staff, the uncertainty of the contract system, and the painfully complex journey towards specialisation. We’ve stayed up for endless calls, sacrificed weekends, some missed family milestones...
And yet, through all of that, I’ve had the privilege to serve, to learn, and to grow alongside some of the most dedicated souls I’ve ever met. I’ve seen the best of people: Colleagues who cover for each other without being asked. Doctors and nurses who push through exhaustion because a patient needs them. Housemen growing into confident, competent doctors. Pharmacists who always double check and advise no matter how late we called.... Patients who leave a quiet “terima kasih” that somehow makes everything feel worth it.
To my juniors: I see you. I know it’s hard, and I won’t pretend it gets easier overnight. But know this—your work matters. *You* matter. Please take care of your health, find your support system, and hold on to the reason you chose this path in the first place.
For me, it’s time for a new chapter. One that aligns with who I’m becoming, and where I want to go. But I’ll always be proud of this part of the journey.
Thank you, KKM, it's been real—for the lessons, the trials, and the strength I never knew I had. Here’s to new beginnings, and to never forgetting where we started.
To better days, for all of us. Thanks again.
