A New Milestone in Regional Cooperation

We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KalherHub and the COMESA Court of Justice, marking an important milestone in advancing institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange, professional development, and capacity building.

KalherHub is a US-based organization dedicated to education, technology, innovation, international collaboration, technology-focused professional development, and the development of networks among international organizations, research institutions, and strategic partners.

The COMESA Court of Justice (CCJ) is the judicial organ of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). It is mandated to promote the interpretation and application of COMESA legal instruments and to support justice and regional integration among its 21 African Member States.

This strategic partnership will facilitate collaboration in training, knowledge sharing, and professional development, contributing to stronger institutions and advancing regional integration across Africa.

We congratulate KalherHub and the COMESA Court of Justice on this significant partnership and look forward to a productive and impactful collaboration.

The Sudanese Ambassador Pays a Courtesy Meeting with the COMESA Court of Justice

His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Elsadig Ali Sayed, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan, paid a courtesy call on the COMESA Court of Justice. He was received by the Registrar of the Court, Honourable Dr. Woubishet Shiferaw, together with other members of staff.

During the meeting, Ambassador Elsadig reaffirmed the Republic of the Sudan’s commitment to the Court. He expressed his sincere apologies to the Court and its staff for the hardships caused by the conflict in Sudan. The Ambassador reiterated the Sudanese Government’s desire to facilitate the Court’s return to its Seat in Khartoum once the situation there goes back to normal. However, he acknowledged the difficult situation currently prevailing in the country.

His Excellency proposed the establishment of a joint committee comprising representatives of the Sudanese Government and members of the Court’s staff. The committee would be mandated to address matters affecting the Court, including estimating the costs of repairing and rebuilding the Court’s premises, assessing compensation for staff who lost personal belongings, conducting an inventory of all assets belonging to both the Court and the Government of the Sudan and doing relevant activities that strengthen the relationship between the Court and the Sudanese Government. He also invited the Registrar of the Court to have a Courtesy Meeting.

The Honourable Registrar greatly thanked the Government of Sudan for all the support the government is providing and will be providing in the future, indicated areas of cooperation and reaffirmed the Court’s commitment to working closely with the Government of the Sudan in addressing issues affecting the Court and supporting its future operations.

Courtesy Call: Legal Division Introduces New Legal Affairs Officer to the Court

The COMESA Legal and Corporate Affairs Division paid a courtesy call to the Registrar of the COMESA Court of Justice. The Director of Legal Affairs, Mr Gabriel Masuku, formally introduced Mr. Ahmed Farah, Legal Affairs Officer, to the Court's Registry.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the COMESA Secretariat and the Court to working as interdependent Organs of the Common Market towards achieving the common goal of regional integration. The Court and the Legal Division are developing a Collaboration Agreement designed to strengthen their institutional partnership and facilitate more effective working relations between the two Organs.

The COMESA Court of Justice (CCJ) and the Ethiopian Federal Advocates Association (EFAA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote COMESA law, widen access to justice, and strengthen the skills of legal practitioners across the region. The Registrar of the Court, Honourable Dr. Woubishet Shiferaw, and the President of EFAA, Mr. Tesfaye Deresse, signed the agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The MOU will prompt regional integration where legal commitments are enforced, and the CCJ performs this role across Eastern and Southern Africa. Many practitioners and businesses remain unaware of when and how they can bring a matter before it, and this agreement is set to bridge that gap by reaching out to practitioners, law students, academics, the business community, and the wider public.
