How to see Chichén Itzá without the crowds

➡️ I stayed in Valladolid the night before and was at the gate for the 10am.
⏰ Open daily 8am–5pm, last entry 4pm

🎟 One ticket since March 2026: 697 MXN for foreign visitors (about £28 )

🚨 Don’t have to book in advance or from the numerous people who try to stop you! You can buy tickets at the entrance gate!

🚌 Tour buses from Cancún start arriving around 10–11am, so the first two hours are the quiet ones

☀️ There’s almost no shade, so go early before the midday heat

Most people show up at noon, fight the crowds, and miss the best part. Here’s what I wish I’d known:

📍 4 km from Tulum town, on the road to Cobá
⏰ Open daily, around 8 AM to 4:45 PM. Be there at opening for calm water and the best light
💸 Entry is around 500 MXN (=£20 pp), cash only. Bring pesos!
🚨🚨🚨 Quick tip: if you pay in US$, then it is $2 only!!!
🤿 Snorkel gear and life jacket are included, and you’ll swim with real freshwater turtles
🌿 Rinse off first and skip regular sunscreen or bug spray. Only biodegradable is allowed, so you don’t damage the water
🔒 Bring a dry bag and a waterproof phone pouch

The cave section is the real magic. Don’t just stay in the open pool.
