A year ago, Papercast joined forces with the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) to introduce 13-inch e-paper displays and adaptive power solutions to Columbus bus stops. Today, we’re reflecting on how these updates have made travel easier, even during Ohio’s tough winter months.

Here we bring you Environment Canterbury in partnership with NEC New Zealand. Papercast e-paper displays were installed at bus stops across the city as part of a project to modernise Christchurch's transport system.

Powered by a combination of solar, mains and streetlight power, the displays offer accurate bus arrival times, timetables, active alerts and text-to-speech functionality, enhancing the public transport experience for all residents.

This week we showcase FlixBus.

This project with FlixBus, Europe's largest intercity bus company, represented Papercast's first pan-European deployment spanning five countries - Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.

FlixBus prioritises offering smart mobility and an excellent user experience, and Papercast's customised e-paper displays, featuring FlixBus branding, enhance passenger satisfaction by providing timely and accurate information at bus stops.

This week we showcase Lahti Region Transport - Lahden Seudun Liikenne (LSL).

LSL introduced Finland's first solar-powered e-paper public transport displays in collaboration with Papercast.

The project aims to enhance the user experience and promote sustainability in public transport. These environmentally friendly Papercast e-paper displays align with Lahti's status as the European Green Capital of 2021.

The e-paper displays consume significantly less energy than traditional displays, operating on solar-powered rechargeable batteries even in Finland's challenging Nordic climate. The project has successfully replaced LCD displays in the city center, offering real-time passenger information and general updates.

We are excited to announce the second phase rollout of our sustainable, low power e-paper displays across Riga’s public transport network. This initiative marks a pivotal shift from traditional, power-hungry LED displays to more eco-friendly technologies.

Find out how Rīgas Satiksme, Riga's municipal public transportation company, has achieved significant cost and carbon savings with Papercast e-paper displays!

#1 Inherent longevity

E Ink is the sole manufacturer of e-paper technology globally. It's technology operates for at least 40 million content updates.

Given an extreme scenario of 2,000 updates per day, that equates to 20,000 days (over 54 years).

Factor in temperature and humidity in outdoor environments, we estimate the lifespan to be 12 years.
