What sort of vehicle do you need to drive to Vladivostok? I will be taking my Toyota Hilux Surf, but I've just read a book by two brothers who did the trip in a Ford Sierra Sapphire (spoiler alert - it fell apart). I would recommend an estate car, it gives you the option of sleeping in the back if necessary (that isn't the plan, but who knows?). 4x4 shouldn't be needed in summer, but some of the roads will be dirt roads, so heightened suspension will help. Shipping the vehicle home from our destination will cost +/- £4000, so do you buy a cheaper car and abandon it, or something more expensive that you want to bring back?
