Returning to Eriksberg had been on my wishlist ever since my first stay, and this visit reminded me exactly why. This time, I checked into Arken, the estate’s striking new hotel building, where I had the pleasure of staying in Urberg, one of just three exclusive signature suites. Alongside the spacious Deluxe Rooms, the three suites—Urberg, Skog, and Himmel—were designed by the renowned Swedish design duo Bernadotte & Kylberg, each inspired by a different element of Eriksberg’s landscape and brought to life through bespoke interiors and natural materials.

What makes Arken so special is its connection to the reserve. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the savannah, and every room is equipped with binoculars so you can watch the wildlife from the comfort of your bed or private terrace. Seeing bison, red deer, fallow deer, Père David’s deer, mouflon, wild boar, and countless birds roaming freely across the landscape is an experience that never gets old. Waking up to that view alone makes staying in Arken worth it.

Beyond the accommodation, I explored the 925-hectare reserve on the self-drive safari, relaxed in the spa overlooking the savannah, enjoyed outstanding seasonal cuisine, and even had the chance to step inside the incredible Lily Croft villa.

Eriksberg is so much more than a hotel, it’s a place where luxury, conservation, wildlife, and Scandinavian hospitality come together in a truly unforgettable way.

I spent a week on a fam trip through the Jyväskylä region by car, and it rewired everything I thought I knew about Finland. A UNESCO wooden church from 1763. The world’s largest concentration of Alvar Aalto buildings. A dark, mystical bear canyon. A century-old steamship gliding across Lake Päijänne at sunset. Viewpoints that stop you mid-sentence.

And the accommodation — endlessly varied. I slept at boutique Hotelli Yöpuu with its legendary breakfast and Chaîne des Rôtisseurs restaurant, the stylish city-center Hotel Verso, the Scandic Laajavuori perched on a hilltop with panoramic views over the city and lake, the jaw-dropping Villa Airanne - a luxurious log villa on its own private peninsula, built around a table carried from Karelia after WWII — and Revontuli Resort’s panoramic glass igloo cabins, where the lake is literally your ceiling.

Coolcation and forest therapy are booming right now. This region delivers both — quietly, without the crowds, and without the long flight north.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: stop chasing darkness. Come for the midnight sun instead. The burning sky at 1am over a Finnish lake is something no brochure has ever sold properly.

CLSR boutique festival 2026 felt like stepping into a fairytale. Set against the backdrop of the “Cinderella Castle of Sweden,” Stora Sundby Castle, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical. Perfect summer weather, golden evening light, and castle towers rising above the crowd created a setting straight out of a storybook.
The soundtrack came from one of the strongest line-up in recent years - Oling, WhoMadeWho, Notre Dame, Awaÿken b2b Jonas Rathsman, and Argy, while an immense drone show and massive fire effects lit up the night sky.
As the final chapter unfolded, Argy delivered a powerful closing set filled with energy, emotion, and relentless beats - an unforgettable ending to a truly spectacular night.
This Sweden’s most beautiful dancefloor!

A ROCK, A LIGHTHOUSE AND UNIQUE STORIES
sits on a bare granite rock off Marstrand on Sweden’s west coast. A lighthouse built in 1868 to guide sailors through the country’s most dangerous waters. Today, the historic keeper’s residence is an award-winning boutique hotel with nine rooms for up to 22 guests. You arrive by RIB boat from Marstrand, and the crossing sets the tone.

The interior was designed by Johansen of - one of Scandinavia’s most celebrated hospitality designers, who approaches every project like a film director approaching a script. He might be out pulling lobster traps when you arrive.

CEO Mirja Lilja Hagsjö grew up on this coastline and hosts the island with the warmth of someone who knows every story it holds. Johan Bengtsson makes sure nobody leaves on an empty stomach — seafood from the Kattegat, herbs from the lighthouse garden, dinners served across the island’s different spaces. He sells his own products .se

Climb the 32-metre lighthouse for a 360-degree view of open sea. Pull crab and lobster traps from the outer reefs. Kayak with seals. Sink into a hot tub of heated seawater with the horizon in front of you.

This is Europe’s most atmospheric island retreat. It feels, not entirely by coincidence, like the opening chapter of an Agatha Christie novel.

INSIDER STORY: Finland broke my perception. As a Swede, that stings.

I just returned from a famtrip through Finnish Lapland, organised by Aleksi Pitkänen, founder of Sumama — The Nordic Matchmakers. 26 travel agents, 5 days of nonstop site inspections, ending with two days at VIP Travel North 2026 in Levi where around 100 buyers and suppliers came together to do real business.

I attended as a buyer with zero prior knowledge of the Finnish market. Every time clients asked me about Finland, I redirected them to Swedish Lapland — simply because I have a strict personal policy: I never recommend what I haven’t seen myself. Sumama gave me the opportunity to finally fix that. And now I’m frustrated. Let me explain.

After 4–5 days I can say with full conviction: Finland is 20 years ahead of Sweden in luxury wilderness hospitality. Finnish Lapland has an endless variety of architecturally stunning, thoughtfully designed accommodations — glass-roofed cabins, mirrored forest boxes, igloo resorts, luxury villa retreats, boutique sauna lodges — with more being built as we speak. Sweden has the Ice Hotel, Arctic Bath, Villa Äng and Tree Hotel — unique, yes — and one genuine luxury cabin retreat, Arctic Retreat outside Luleå. That is more or less it.

The deeper problem is cultural. Sweden is anchored in “lagom” — just enough. We sell a simple wooden cabin under the stars for a very high price tag and call it luxury because the trends say so. It’s the equivalent of paying 10,000 SEK per night in the Maldives and being shown a beach hut while the staff points at the turquoise water. You still want the overwater stilt bungalow. We remain a ”STF destination” — where Swedes bring their own sheets to a forest cabin and clean it on checkout — while Finland fills luxury retreats at €1500 a night or more with international guests who came specifically for the high standard of accommodation.

The luxury travel segment selects a destination based on the hotel first. The experience follows. Until Swedish hospitality entrepreneurs truly understand that, we will keep attracting hikers and self-caterers while Finland takes the jetsetters.

Then there’s the connectivity — and the numbers are damning. Swedish Lapland receives a handful of direct international flights in winter: Düsseldorf, Paris, Zurich, Munich, Hanover and Copenhagen connecting to Luleå and Kiruna via Eurowings, Air France, Transavia, Edelweiss and SAS. Welcome progress — but Rovaniemi alone handles up to 60 flights a day during peak season, with direct connections spanning the entire global map. And between Swedish Lapland and Finnish Lapland? Not a single scheduled direct flight. Zero. Two regions sharing a border with no airbridge whatsoever.

In practice this means tourists fly into Rovaniemi, explore Finnish Lapland, then continue directly to Tromsø or Kirkenes — because established flight connections exist between them. Sweden is simply not part of that Arctic loop. We have opted ourselves out of it.

What overwhelmed me most during the famtrip was the feeling of abundance. Beautiful, distinctive properties one after another — each with its own identity, its own story, its own architectural language. I felt genuine happiness discovering so many places I can now confidently stand behind and offer my clients. That is a rare feeling in this profession.

And the Finnish people. Finland has been ranked the world’s happiest country for eight consecutive years. I was sceptical about that until this trip. Finns are not the most expressive people on the surface — but every single person we encountered, waiters, activity guides, hotel owners, Sami hosts, local entrepreneurs, was humble, kind and quietly proud of what they have built. There is a warmth beneath the reserve that you feel rather than see. Many expats came for a season and simply never left. Once you arrive, you understand exactly why.

Finland is already fulfilling the criteria of the high-end travel segment. Their retreats appear in the portfolios of VIP travel designers worldwide, presented like real estate editorials. Sweden appears on pages dedicated to outdoor activities, hiking and self-catering. That gap will not close by itself.

Massive thanks to Aleksi Pitkänen and the entire Sumama team for creating this format and for opening my eyes. VIP Travel North is exactly the kind of intimate, high-quality B2B event the Nordic market needs more of.

Finnish Lapland is now firmly in my portfolio. It was long overdue.

My new storytelling experience: Vauldalen Fjellhotell, Røros region, Norway. Founded 1780 as a rest stop on the Sweden - Norway trade route. Family-run to this day by Jorid and Ole Peder, who have built everything around one idea - that guests are never just numbers on a list. Their daughters are part of the experience too.
The signature experience: a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the mountains to Volldalskoja, a candlelit wilderness cabin only reachable this way. Three-course dinner from local ingredients, live folk music, and storytelling around an open fire. This moment feels unreal.
A more adventurous journey - you can cross Rørosvidda by horse and sleigh over multiple days, cooking over campfire, sleeping at historic farms, following the same route the old trade drivers once took.
Food is rooted in the region: elk, trout, cloudberries, Røros dairy. Isolation and off the beaten track in the Norwegian mountains. The focus is nature, food, and company from local storytellers.
