Saturdays at Lengkok Bahru

Saturdays at Lengkok Bahru TheSaturdayMovement is a volunteer group comprising volunteers who are proactively reaching out to befriend the elderly primarily in one room rental flats.

ABOUT US
Saturdays @ Lengkok Bahru is made up of a group of volunteers who have proactively reached out to befriend the elderly residents residing in Block 55 to 61 at Lengkok Bahru estate and 3 blocks in redhill in Singapore. In their own time and at their own cost, they organize a weekly food distribution service and serve delicious lunch/tea time treats held at the void deck of Block 52 from 10

am to 12pm. The initiative currently supports about 370 households in the area and some of the volunteers provide free tuition services for about 35 children (under 12 years) living in that estate. We are strictly non profit and all the volunteers are doing it with a willing and joyful heart. THE INSPIRATION
Inspired by the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom, which is about a successful sports columnist who spends 14 Tuesdays visiting Morrie Schwartz, his dying 78-year old Sociology professor, the story centers around the meaningful conversations that they have. Albom brings the gift of companionship and food to Morrie as a symbolic affirmation of life and health before Morrie takes his final journey in life. In the same spirit of giving, the group coined the name Saturdays @ Lengkok Bahru. Come join us and share unconditional love and joy and be a blessing to everyone :)

Short video of what we do at the saturday movement. Many thanks to all who have stepped forward to support despite us being a charity only.

It's the heart for giving and not the art of giving for tax deductions purposes.

In our 13th year and look forward to corporates to come support. Drop me a note if any of you would like to be involved in this area of mental wellness, feeding programs and most importantly, unconditional love especially for our pioneers and vulnerable elderly.

There is a little community at Lengkok Bahru where love is expressed in warm meals and kind words, and where the elderly learn to care for one another. It is...

It's past 13 years and this is our 1st attempt at raising funds to support our ministry of *unconditional love* towards the elderly living in rental flats. Besides providing good quality food at s17communitykitchen (food that you and I will eat) weekly lunch buffets and daily coffee breaks + weekly door2door visits with a loaf of bread and fresh fruits, the most important aspect is that they feel loved and cared for. It's our humble act of love and kindness for the pioneers of singapore.

During circuit breaker, we provided 2 meals per person per day including Sundays and public holidays. Each pack hand delivered by a small team of us volunteers determined to ensure they stay indoors and not be exposed to the virus. A total of 103,000 food packs was delivered during the 3 months. Food was cooked by The Peranakan Restaurant and halal food catered from Orchard hotel (at a special price)

As the average Singaporean feel the pressures of raising costs, what more about these vulnerable elderly residents at timesliek these.

We are seeking like minded Individuals and companies to step forward to help this on going support for the elderly. Set aside the questions if it's tax deductible or not but put your hand to heart and support graciously. Let the giving be from the heart ❤️

Being a foodie that we all are, this will be a dinner that will excite all your taste buds. This is the 1st time regional peranakan chefs from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand come together to cook a Peranakan feast that's not to be missed.

Gather your friends and families to join! I look forward to meeting everyone there.

We are proud to prepare, cook and support The Saturday Movement in their distribution of over 500 free meals for the elderly beneficiaries and needy families in lengkok bahru and redhill and vendors from Sungei Road Green Hub.
Meal vouchers are presented by the beneficiaries to us. They can select their choice of meals anytime during operating hours. Nothing like a hot and hearty meal to boost the mental wellness with more then a gesture of unconditional love extended to everyone.
Thank you for including us for the last 13 months of our operations and congratulations again for winning the brands for good award.

S17 community kitchen is open throughout Chinese New year. Come makan our super sedap satay and nasi padang. We are located at block 57 lengkok bahru (at the entrance of the car park)

Amid the pandemic... all our beneficiaries in lengkok bahru and redhill had a can of abalone delivered to them this morning with mandarin oranges and fresh loaf of bread + an ang pow to be distributed next week. Similar distribution will be made to our beneficiaries from Sungei Road Green Hub on 8th February 2022.
In multi racial Singapore, all these indulgences are distributed to everyone regardless of race language or religion. It helps brighten up everyone's Chinese New Year and more importantly, their mental wellbeing of being cared for unconditionally.

For elderly people like Mr Teh, they can't help but feel forgotten amidst Singapore's efforts towards a new normal.
