Uncle very sad to hear that my fellow other Bus Uncles were beaten up. After beating him up they steal his wallet some more. I hope no one will abuse me or my colleagues in the future ah 😞
On 2 November 2021, two of our bus captains were verbally abused and physically assaulted in separate incidents which happened on the bus whilst they were performing their duties. One bus captain was also robbed of his wallet as his attackers fled the scene.
They were both conscious when taken to hospital by ambulance and we are thankful that no serious injuries were sustained. We appreciate National Transport Workers' Union's Executive Secretary, Melvin Yong 杨益财, and LTA representatives’ visit with one of the bus captains earlier today, where he shared his relief that his two assailants have been arrested.
Both incidents occurred as our bus captains were looking out for the safety of their passengers, reminding them on proper mask-wearing and to hold onto the grab pole on the crowded bus. It is preposterous that these acts of diligence resulted in them being assaulted.
Our bus captains are dedicated in carrying out their duties so that commuters can enjoy safe and reliable journeys, it is inexcusable that they are subject to such abhorrent behaviour in the course of their work.
We condemn these malicious acts and are providing all assistance to support the wellbeing of our bus captains, and make sure that their assailants are dealt with the full extent of the law.
