Hanan has now turned into 7 years old, she lives in Mogadishu with her father who is the only biological parent she sees around. She never had the fortune of the care of her mother because she never met with her mother.
Hanan was born in May, 2008. And August 2008, when Hanan was just 3 months old, her mother abandoned from Mogadishu to Libya to migrate to one of European countries for a life better than the one she had in Mogadishu. Until now the whereabouts of Hanan's mother is not known to anyone even her father who still feels the pain of that tragedy. Hanan's father says the last time he heard from his wife was 2008 when she was preparing to embark on a boat of migrants sailing to Italy from Libya and since after that moment he had not heard the whereabouts of his wife. He was later informed by the people she was with that Hanan's mother was part of dozens of migrants drowned in the sea.
Tens of kids like Hanan experience this unfortunate and it will not stop if we don't stand to save our future labor force. It is not that we should only mobilize to thwart them in their attempts to go, that will not be the sustainable solution for this unfortunate. But we must promote peace and stability in the country so that foreign investments flow into the country where jobs are created for these young people setting out on this perilous journey. Those, whom insecurity made them flee from their farms into urban lands for food aid, return back to their farms to produce for local consumption. They also benefit from other resources in the country such as fishing and livestock. Our resources are explored and our capital in foreign countries are reinvested in the country so that we abstain from this unfortunate Hanan regrets !
