Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a Christian organisation that provides aviation services for people living in remote areas around the world. For over 60 years, MAF aircraft have been serving isolated and underprivileged men, women and children, by providing a regular flight and freight service bringing the essentials of life into these communities as well as medical care, emergency food, and

Christian hope. Today worldwide, the partnership operates 142 aircraft from bases in over 30 countries. Our purpose is to deliver practical and spiritual care to people in places of deepest human need. Every three minutes, an MAF plane takes off or lands somewhere in the world. These flights enable crucial work by many aid and development agencies, missions, local churches and other national groups. MAF is serving the Church and communities in remote areas where flying is not a luxury, but a lifeline.

Denied at the gate. This unbooked VIP tried skipping the check-in counter for a spot on the landing gear. Per MAF safety policy, he was promptly escorted to his alternative 'VIP lounge' in the grass. 🦎✈️

Pilot Reuben Vermeulen greets enthusiastic children in Malualkon, South Sudan.

The truth is, the best part of any flight happens after the engine cuts out and the dust finally settles on the airstrip.

Every time we land, it’s about so much more than just dropping off vital supplies or passengers. It’s about the moments right after the chance to step out, look into these bright, beautiful faces, and share a genuine smile. For these kids, seeing the plane touch down is pure excitement but for our pilots, looking into these eyes is a beautiful, grounding reminder of exactly why we do this work.

At the end of the day, it’s not about the planes but it’s about the people in these remote communities who are the real heart of everything we do. Thank you so much to all communities in South Sudan for standing by us and helping us bring a little more hope, healing, and human connection to the furthest corners of this beautiful country.

Training the next generation of pilots.

Meet our pilot, Joost van Keulen who is busy honing his skills during his current training in Uganda. Whether in the cockpit or at the airstrips, every hour spent in preparation means safer, more efficient flights for the people who rely on us.

We are committed to investing in the professional development of our team as we continue to serve communities most in need in South Sudan.

There is no sound more beautiful than the celebration of restored health. For too long, these brave women carried the heavy physical and emotional burden of obstetric fistula—a debilitating condition that often leads to isolation. But their stories didn't end in suffering. Thanks to life-changing corrective surgeries and dedicated care, they have been successfully operated on, discharged, and given a completely new lease on life.

This entire journey of restoration was a true team effort between MAF and Evangelical Lutheran Church - Africa Mission in South Sudan (ELCAMSS). While we provided the critical wings, transporting the patients safely back and forth, ELCAMSS provided the essential groundwork and holistic support to guide them every step of the way.

A successful operation does more than heal a physical wound, it restores a woman's place in her community. As they boarded their MAF flights back home to Lakes State and Warrap State, they carried hope, health, and dignity.

Last week, we had the privilege of flying the team from the office of the Primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan. The team travelled from Juba to Rumbek to celebrate a major milestone—the installation of the second Internal Archbishop of the Eastern Bahr El Ghazal Internal Province.

As this new chapter begins, we lift up the new Archbishop in prayer. May God grant him wisdom, strength, and abundant grace as he leads and serves the people of Eastern Bahr El Ghazal.

We are so grateful to play a part in connecting church leadership across South Sudan, overcoming roads that divide to bring communities together in celebration and faith.
