Doi Tung Royal Villa.
This beautiful residence was the home of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, lovingly known to Thai people as the Princess Mother. She chose Doi Tung as her home because she wanted to live close to the local communities and personally oversee the development projects in this area. The Royal Villa was completed in 1988. Its design combines traditional Lanna architecture with Swiss chalet style, reflecting the Princess Mother's love for both Thailand and Switzerland, where she spent many years of her life. Most of the building materials were sourced locally, and much of the beautiful wood carving was created by skilled artisans from northern Thailand. More than just a royal residence, this place symbolizes compassion, sustainability, and hope. From here, the Princess Mother launched the Doi Tung Development Project, which transformed this once-deforested area into a thriving forest. The project also helped local people replace o***m cultivation with sustainable livelihoods such as coffee, macadamia nuts, handicrafts, and tourism.
Today, Doi Tung is recognized as a successful model of sustainable development, showing how caring for both people and nature can create a better future for everyone.
