Cultures, nations, histories, traditions exist so we learn from each other and try to see everything in different perspectives. The more we learn and feel the differences, the more we enjoy being a part of this world. We, LokalBond, take the mission of creating bridges between people and cultures, through what we call, at-home experiences. We believe that we become our true selves when we are at home or when we are made feel at home. Sharing, creating, learning and teaching at home form a unique bond, when we are our true selves. That's how Usama described a soap-making evening with Muzaffer in the mountains above Fethiye. 🧡

This is the kind of thing you can't really plan for from a hotel room: hands full of herbs and olive oil, learning a craft that's been passed down in this village for generations, from someone who's genuinely excited to share it.

It's not just a feeling; it's measurable. A global Meta-Gallup survey across 142 countries found that roughly 1 in 4 adults report feeling very or fairly lonely; that's over a billion people. In the US, numbers range from 40% (Census Bureau, checking "sometimes lonely") to 58% (Cigna, using the UCLA Loneliness Scale), and counter to what most people assume, it's young adults -not the elderly- who report the highest rates: nearly 8 in 10 people aged 18–24.

The good news: loneliness responds to small, deliberate changes.

Research points to a few things that actually help:
– Casual interaction counts. Brief, low-stakes chats with acquaintances -a barista, a neighbor, a classmate- measurably boost feelings of belonging, even without deep friendship.
– Shared activity beats passive scrolling. Studies link passive social media use to higher loneliness, while active engagement -and especially in-person shared experiences- has the opposite effect.
– Purpose and connection travel together. Harvard researchers point to volunteering and collective activity, doing something with others, not just being near them as one of the more reliable ways to rebuild a sense of belonging.
– Structure helps. Loneliness interventions with a real human element (not just an app) show the strongest results.
