The oldest hospital in LA is currently a temporary large-scale immersive art pop-up called hospital.of.emotions that features 80 rooms by 70 artists using original hospital beds, operating rooms, and medical equipment as the canvas. Organized into emotional “departments” of resilience, joy, gratitude, sadness, anger, compassion, hope, love, fear, and jealousy, each room has its own theme. Visitors receive a patient wristband and chart upon check-in and get “discharged” at the end. The staff are dressed as doctors. And there’s even a gift shop at the end where you can make your own bouquet made out of handmade pipe cleaner flowers.
This was all things very cool, deeply moving, thoughtful, and so creative. The artists were paid for their work and a portion of proceeds will go to the hospital’s future transition into a permanent behavioral health and community care campus. How cool is that ❤️
