A Vision Brought to Life
Today marks a defining milestone for Izmir Shipyard.
We are proud to announce the successful completion of IZ1060e—one of the world’s first purpose-built, fully electric pilot boats.
More than a new vessel, IZ1060e demonstrates what is possible when engineering, innovation, and sustainability come together around a clear vision.
From R&D to the Sea
The journey of IZ1060e began as an R&D project supported by TÜBİTAK and developed in close collaboration with Eylül University.
Designed from day one as a dedicated pilot boat—not a conversion—IZ1060e has been optimized in every detail for electric propulsion, operational reliability, and long-term sustainability.
Powered by twin Storm electric propulsion systems and a 2 × 120 kW battery pack, IZ1060e delivers:
⚓ A maximum speed of 19 knots
⚓ A range of up to 100 nautical miles at economical cruising speed
⚓ Zero local emissions during operation
⚓ Quiet, efficient, and low-maintenance performance
Why HDPE?
Sustainability extends far beyond the propulsion system.
IZ1060e is built entirely from HDPE—a material that is 100% recyclable, corrosion-free, and requires neither antifouling paint nor galvanic protection.
These advantages significantly reduce maintenance requirements while minimizing environmental impact throughout the vessel’s lifecycle.
Combined with a hull form specifically optimized for electric propulsion, HDPE provides an ideal platform for the next generation of professional workboats.
The Journey Continues
At Izmir Shipyard, we believe the future of commercial and governmental workboats is not only more efficient, but also cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable.
IZ1060e is our contribution to that future.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our engineers, technicians, project partners, TÜBİTAK, Eylül University, , , and everyone whose expertise and dedication made this achievement possible.
This is only the beginning. IZ1060e’s bigger sister ship, IZ1540e, is already under construction. 🧿
