🇹🇹 DO TRINIDAD & TOBAGO PASSPORT HOLDERS NEED A VISA?
Probably one of the questions I get asked MOST as a travel planner. 😂

So let's test your Trinidad & Tobago passport with four destinations you might not expect:
🇰🇪 KENYA — no visa, and Trinidad & Tobago passport holders are currently exempt from Kenya's eTA requirement for stays up to 90 days.

🇲🇾 MALAYSIA — no visa, but don't confuse visa-free with paperwork-free. Travellers still need to check Malaysia's Digital Arrival Card requirements before arrival.

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA — no visa required for Trinidad & Tobago passport holders for a short tourist stay.

🇭🇷 CROATIA — also visa-free for short stays. And if Dubrovnik looks strangely familiar… 👀🐉 parts of Game of Thrones were filmed there, including locations used for King's Landing.

But here's the important part:
VISA-FREE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN “BUY A TICKET AND GO.”
You may still need to check:
✈️ your transit countries
📱 electronic travel authorisations
📝 arrival forms
🛂 passport validity and entry conditions
📆 permitted length of stay

That's why when I'm planning international travel from Trinidad, I don't only ask:
“Does this passport need a visa?”
I also ask:
“What does this traveller need to actually GET THERE?”

WOULD YOU ADD SOUTH KOREA TO A CHINA TRIP?
Because this is exactly how my group-trip planning brain works. 😂
We're already planning our September 2027 China group trip… and then I started looking at the map.

Beijing → Seoul is only around 2 hours nonstop. ✈️
And suddenly I'm thinking…
Why come all this way from the Caribbean and not consider adding 4 days in Seoul, South Korea?

🇰🇷 Gyeongbokgung Palace
🏘️ Bukchon Hanok Village
🛍️ Myeongdong + K-beauty shopping
🍜 Korean food
👀 Maybe even a DMZ tour

And for Trinidad & Tobago passport holders, there's another plus: no tourist visa is required for stays of up to 90 days. We'll check the K-ETA requirements again for 2027 before travel.

This is genuinely how Yellow Wig Travel Gurus group trips start.
I find somewhere interesting.
Then I start asking:
Can I make it work?
Does the routing make sense?
Is there enough time?
Does it add something genuinely different to the trip?
And most importantly… would my travellers actually want to do it? 😂

Because sometimes the smartest add-on isn't another city.
It's another COUNTRY.

HOTEL HOPPING IN TOKYO? Apparently it's a 2026 travel trend, but we've already been doing it. 😂

On our Japan group trip, we stayed at two different Tokyo hotels for two very different reasons.

🏨 Candeo Hotels Ueno Park at the beginning of the trip, our priority was to save money.

🏨 Hotel Mystays Gotanda later in the trip, we moved because our priority had changed. We wanted to save time.
And THAT is when hotel hopping makes sense!

By the end of a long trip, we were tired. 😩 Suddenly convenience mattered more than squeezing every last dollar out of the hotel budget.

Our rule when planning hotels for a trip:
Don't change hotels just because it's trendy. Change when the move gives you something.

💰 Save money
⏰ Save time
📍 Get a better location
🏨 Get a genuinely different experience

The best hotel for the start of your trip doesn't necessarily have to be the best hotel for the end of your trip.

And for Caribbean travellers planning a Japan vacation, that's worth considering when we're already investing so much time and money getting there.

DID YOU KNOW COPA AIRLINES HAS A PANAMA STOPOVER? 👀🇵🇦✈️

If you're travelling from Trinidad to Ecuador with Copa Airlines, your Panama layover doesn't necessarily have to be just a connection.

Copa's Panama Stopover programme allows eligible travellers connecting through Panama to add a stopover of 24 hours to 7 days with no additional airfare for the stopover. Terms apply, and your hotel, meals, transport, activities and any applicable taxes/fees are still yours, so no, I'm not calling this a “free trip.” 😂

But look at what your itinerary could become:
🇪🇨 ECUADOR TRAVEL
Quito • Cotopaxi • Quilotoa • Baños
PLUS
🇵🇦 PANAMA TRAVEL
Panama City • Casco Viejo • Panama Canal
One itinerary. Two destinations. 👀✈️

This is why, when I'm planning international travel from Trinidad and the Caribbean, I don't automatically choose the shortest connection.
Sometimes I look at the layover and think:
Can I turn this into part of the trip?

Because when we're already paying for international flights from Trinidad, I want to know what else that itinerary can give me.

NOT EVERY DESTINATION IS WORTH THE JOURNEY FROM THE CARIBBEAN.

Before anybody comes for me 😂 I didn’t say Bali or Japan aren’t worth visiting.
I said they may not be worth the journey for the amount of vacation time you have.

When I’m planning travel from Trinidad and the Caribbean, I don’t just ask whether a destination looks amazing.
I’m looking at:
✈️ How many flights and connections?
⏰ How long is the total journey?
💰 What will the airfare actually cost?
📅 How many vacation days do you have?
😩 And how much of your holiday disappears just getting there and back?

From Trinidad, Bali can take 30+ hours and Japan 20+ hours. For a 5-day trip? Absolutely not. 😂

But Colombia, at around 7 hours with one connection? For 5 days, now we’re talking. 👀

Give me 10–14 days and suddenly Bali or Japan becomes a completely different conversation.

That’s one of the biggest differences with Caribbean travel planning. A destination that makes perfect sense for someone flying from New York or London may require very different travel maths from Trinidad.

So I don’t just ask:
“Is this destination worth visiting?”
I ask:
“Is it worth getting there FROM HERE?”

SKIPPING ONE STARBUCKS ISN'T GOING TO PAY FOR A DREAM DESTINATION. 😂✈️

But here's the part of the “how do you afford to travel?” conversation that I think gets missed.
I don't try to spend nothing.
I decide what I actually want to spend more on.

So there are things I simply don't make part of my regular spending:
I don't buy Starbucks/Rituals coffee every day.
I don't routinely buy lunch.
I don't pay for cable + multiple streaming subscriptions.
I don't upgrade my phone every year.
And luxury clothes and handbags aren't my thing, even when I'm travelling.

Does skipping one of these things pay for an international trip? Of course not.
But spending is cumulative.
And when travel is something I know I want to do 1–2 times a year, it gets treated like something I'm actually planning and budgeting for, not something I hope I'll magically have money left over for.

And there are plenty of things I WILL happily spend money on.
Good food. Experiences. Direct flights when they're worth it. Travel insurance. A balcony cabin on a cruise.

Because this isn't about being cheap.
It's about deciding what's worth YOUR money.

For me?
Less stuff. More world. 🙏🏾

SEPTEMBER TRAVELLERS…WE MADE IT!!!
Peak summer is winding down and for many destinations, shoulder season is beginning.
And this is one of my favourite times of year to travel.

If you're wondering what on earth I'm celebrating... 😂
Shoulder season is the period between a destination's busy peak season and its quieter low season.

For many popular destinations, travelling in September can mean:
Fewer peak-summer crowds
Potentially better flight and hotel prices
Still-great weather in many places
Popular attractions without quite as much chaos

Basically...
The destination is still there. Some of the people have gone home. 😂

And that's why, when I have flexibility with my travel dates, I often look at shoulder season before peak season.

But here's the important travel-planner bit:
⚠️ September is NOT shoulder season everywhere.
Shoulder season depends on the destination.

September might be fantastic for one country while another is dealing with extreme heat, rainy season, hurricane season, reduced attractions or completely different peak-travel patterns.
So don't just see “September = cheaper” on social media and book a flight.

Check the destination's:
🌦️ Weather
📅 Peak travel periods
🎉 Major events
✈️ Flight prices
🏨 Hotel prices
🚫 Seasonal closures
Shoulder season doesn't automatically mean cheap.

It means you're travelling between peak and low season and that can create a really nice sweet spot between weather, crowds and value.

And for Caribbean travellers, I would especially check the airfare first. A cheaper hotel means very little if getting there from the Caribbean costs a small inheritance.

For me?
If I can see the same destination in September instead of fighting my way through peak summer crowds in July...
September is getting a VERY serious look. 👀

So here's today's debate:
Same destination. Same trip. You get to choose:
JULY — peak summer
or
SEPTEMBER — shoulder season

SAME ROUTE. SAME 7-NIGHT TRIP. DIFFERENT DATES. 👀✈️

I wanted to see how much changing your travel dates could actually affect a flight from Trinidad, so I checked POS → Miami on Caribbean Airlines.

Here's what I found:
🇹🇹 Nov 10–17: US$448.63
🇹🇹 Nov 12–19: US$618.53
That's US$169.90 MORE just two days later. 😳

Then I checked Christmas:
🎄 Dec 22–29: US$776.03
🎄 Dec 24–31: US$636.53
Leaving two days later was US$139.50 LESS.

And compare:
Nov 10–17: US$448.63
vs
Dec 24–31: US$636.53
Same POS–Miami route.
Same 7 nights.
US$187.90 difference.

This is why one of the first things I do when searching for cheaper flights from Trinidad is check the dates around the trip.
Not just another airline.
Not immediately another destination.
The dates.

Of course, sometimes your dates are fixed. School holidays, work schedules, weddings and events don't care about cheap airfare. 😂
But if you have flexibility, even moving the trip by a couple of days can be worth checking.

So before you say:
“Miami is too expensive.”
Ask:
“Is Miami expensive...or are MY dates expensive?”
SAVE this before your next flight search.

Note that fares checked on Caribbean Airlines for Classic economy. Airfares are dynamic and can change.

I plan flights, hotels, trains and tours down to the last detail...
But ask me where I'm eating tonight?
No idea. 😑

I can master the Tokyo Metro, but come out of the station and ask me which direction the hotel is?
Also no idea.

And yes, I will absolutely refuse a $20 taxi because “the metro is right there”...
then spend $60 on dinner.
Those are completely different budgets. 😂

As for getting to the airport ridiculously early?
That's not questionable behaviour.
That's peace of mind in airport lounges. I will not be taking questions. 😌✈️

Being a travel planner doesn't mean I travel perfectly. I've just learned exactly which bits of travel bring out my particular brand of nonsense. 😂

THIS IS HOW I ACTUALLY SEARCH FOR CHEAPER FLIGHTS. ✈️💰

Especially when I'm travelling from the Caribbean, where the airfare can take a VERY disrespectful chunk of the holiday budget. 😑😂

My process:
1️⃣ Start with Google Flights.
I rarely search only one exact date. I check the date grid and nearby days first.

2️⃣ No destination yet? Use Explore.
Put in your departure airport, play with the dates and see where the fares take you.

3️⃣ Cross-check Skyscanner.
One site doesn't automatically get the final word.

4️⃣ Check the airline directly.
Same flight. Same dates. What's the actual fare?

5️⃣ Compare the TOTAL cost.

That “cheap flight” isn't looking quite so cheap after:
Checked bag
Seat selection
Terrible connection
19-hour journey
Restrictive fare rules

And if the trip isn't urgent?
SET A PRICE ALERT. 🔔

I don't need to spend every morning searching POS → Tokyo like it's my full-time job.

The biggest thing I've learned about finding cheap international flights from the Caribbean?
Don't hunt for a secret website.
Learn how to compare properly and be flexible where you can.

SAVE this flight-search process for your next trip.
