Right now in the great plains of the Serengeti National Park, thousands of wildebeest are moving slowly across the grasslands, following the smell of fresh rain and green grass. Nature is their guide. They do not carry maps, but every year their instincts lead them through one of the greatest wildlife journeys on Earth — The Great Migration.

Around this time, many herds begin gathering in the central and northern Serengeti, preparing for the dangerous river crossings toward the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. They move because the southern plains start drying, and new grass grows where the rains fall. Food and water decide everything for them.

The journey begins in the beautiful Ndutu and southern Serengeti plains, where wildebeest give birth to thousands of calves between January and March. After calving season, they travel west and north through the Serengeti, facing lions, crocodiles, rivers, and long dusty roads.

By July to October, many herds reach the Maasai Mara, where the grass is fresh and rich after the rains. The famous Mara River crossings happen here — chaos, bravery, survival, and pure wilderness all in one moment.

But the story never ends there.

When the short rains return to Tanzania around November, the wildebeest begin their journey back south again. Slowly they leave Kenya, cross back through northern Serengeti, and continue down toward Ndutu and the southern plains of Tanzania, completing the great circle of life once more.

This migration is not just movement. It is survival, instinct, and the heartbeat of Africa itself.

After a successful hunt, the lioness lay calmly by the roadside, her hunger satisfied, eyes half closed but still aware of everything around her. Not far away, a group of wildebeest approached, ready to cross ,but something didn’t feel right.

They stepped forward… paused… turned back… then tried again.

That back-and-forth behavior is often called “hesitation” or “indecisive crossing” a survival instinct. The wildebeest sense danger even when they can’t clearly see it. Their confusion is actually caution, a silent communication within the herd saying: “Is it safe… or not?”

Meanwhile, the lioness doesn’t chase. She rests. In the wild, energy is everything once full, even the fiercest hunter chooses peace over pursuit.

Nature is raw, real, and full of unspoken tension. One moment of stillness… another of uncertainty.

Seeing lions resting up in trees is one of the most surprising and beautiful moments in the wild—something you might witness in places like Serengeti National Park Tarangire National Park or Lake Manyara National Park.

But why do they do this?

Cool breeze & comfort – Up in the tree, lions enjoy fresh air and escape the heat from the ground.
Avoid insects – Fewer biting flies and insects disturb them up there.
Better view – From above, they can watch their surroundings and spot prey or danger easily.
Pure relaxation – Sometimes… it’s just the perfect place to rest like kings of the wild!
Not all lions prefer climbing—some are simply more playful or experienced climbers.
Lions on the ground may be resting, guarding territory, or staying alert for hunting opportunities.
Tree space is limited, so only a few get the “VIP seats”

• They have strong family bonds and never leave one behind
