It has been recorded chasing lions off a kill.

The Honey Badger weighs about 12kg. A lion weighs up to 250kg. The Honey Badger does not care.

Its skin is so thick and loose that it can turn around inside it and bite an attacker while being held by the scruff of its neck. Snake venom slows it down briefly. It recovers, gets up, and continues. It has been documented eating puff adders - one of Africa's most venomous snakes - as a casual meal.

It is not aggressive by nature. It is simply completely without fear - and everything in the Serengeti seems to know it.

The Honey Badger is not the biggest, the fastest or the most beautiful animal on the plains. But encounter one and you will spend the rest of your safari thinking about it.

That's the Serengeti. The animals you don't expect are often the ones you never forget.
