Day 5 — Ascent to the Rift Valley Rim and Transfer to Sanjan
After an early light breakfast, we drive to the base of the Rift Valley and begin our trek up the escarpment, following the traditional Maasai migration routes used to move cattle in search of pasture and fresh water.

Once on top, we meet our vehicle for the road transfer across the wide Salei Plains toward Sanjan Gorge, where the camp is already set up for us.

Day 4 — Relax and Recover
Today is a day to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Lake Natron. We walk along the river shore to observe aquatic birds, then follow the Ngare Sero River upstream for a refreshing plunge in its clear freshwater pools. We also visit a local community project before returning to camp for a quiet afternoon.

Day 3 — The Vertiginous Descent to the Rift Valley
The day begins with an easy walk under acacia trees before we follow the crest of the mountain chain and gain altitude. Ol Donyo Lengai stays on our right as we continue along the ridge.

A long and rough descent then brings us down toward the gorges of a seasonal stream and finally to the base of the Rift Valley, where the vehicle awaits us.

Day 2 — Walking Through Forest and Maasai Land
Today’s walk leads you through the cool African mountain forest before the trail opens into Maasai territory. We pass through a village where daily life unfolds quietly around you, with Ol Donyo Lengai rising in the distance like a steady guide.
By afternoon, you reach your camp, set under yellow acacias and surrounded by tall orange leonotis flowers. A calm place to rest after a full day on the trail.

Day 1 - First day of a trek across wide-open landscapes. Our adventure starts with a drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and a stop at the View Point. Fabulous! The scenic drive brings us up to the Empakaai Crater. A gentle descent takes us under ancient trees toward its lake, visited by flamingos, bushbucks and baboons, before we make our way back to the rom and our camp. It’s a calm and steady introduction to the wide landscape we will cross in the days ahead!
