In Uganda Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe, amongst many town are all nestled along the coastline of Lake Victoria, the biggest lake in Africa. The lake has a shoreline of 7,142 kilometres and the lake is shared amonst 3 countries (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania). Try to imagine all the islands which are hiding in this massive Lake. Ssese island alone consist of 84 islands! There is enough to explore! Yet the common way of travel is solely by the roads and not using the lake much at all. We, Nyanza Evergreen Waterways, want to change this fact.
Uganda, also widely known as the Pearl of Africa, is not going unnoticed by worldwide travelers, which is causing the economy to grow. The amount of cars and road travelers are increasing and the highways are getting more and more crowded and dangerous.
We are NEW (Nyanza Evergreen Waterways) and we are pioneers in developing a way of transport that has been overlooked up until this moment: traveling by water in Uganda. Instead of taking 4 to 5 hours to complete 90 to 110 kilometers by road, you can now get to your destination by boat in only 2,5 hours. Taking more than 4 hours to get to Kalangala? With us, this takes 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Transport which will provide you with comfort, safety and stunning views of Lake Victoria and the Ugandan coastline, all while avoiding the traffic jams and any hassles getting to your weekend away from the city.
Our boat will safely take you on your journey to the other side exists out of 56 passenger seats. Comfortable chairs, situated inside (next to windows) shelter against rain and wind but still offers you an amazing view over the lake. It’s also possible to set foot on the outside deck of course, but this is weather dependent. On a clear day, this where you want to be. To feel the wind play with your hair and deeply breath in the fresh and clean air of the lake is truly a big part of the experience. Finally you have a purely relaxing option of travelling from A to B.
We take your safety, well-being and comfort very serious and want you to reach the other side with a smile on your face. This is why we take very strict safety measures.
1) There are life vests available for each passenger on board: whether you’re big, small, able to swim or not!
2) We carry a safety raft that automatically inflates the second it reaches any water. The capacity is big enough for each passenger onboard.
3) Nyanza Evergreen vessels are equipped with the newest radios, radar, sonar systems and a GPS tracker. There’s no hiding even if we wanted to: the world will know where we are at all times which is much required in any (highly unlikely) case of an emergency!
4) The whole journey you will find yourself in the safe hands of our crew. They are well-trained professionals making sure you reach the other side safe and sound.
Bear in mind that traveling over water along the coast is much more safe than moving over the roads on the mainland. Unlike the highway, the lake is not very busy and has barely other traffic to interfere or deal with.
Traveling with Nyanza Evergreen Waterways does not only provide you with safe, fast and comfortable transportation... I is a journey to enjoy, crossing the water and giving you a unique view on Uganda’s stunning coastline.
The boat takes off at ‘The Marina’ in Entebbe, situated right next to the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Zoo. We go to Kalangala island every friday. We leave at 16:00 sharp and after a 75 minute journey, passing several islands as well as the equator along the way, you will disembark on Kalangala around 17:15. During your travel you will be able to enjoy the colorful birdlife, green scenery and the view over the endless, crystal clear water surface, allowing you to look as far as the horizon. (Sunday departure back to Entebbe is at 14:00).
