The Shoebill is one of Africa’s most extraordinary birds—ancient-looking, powerful and remarkably calm. With its enormous bill, towering stature and prehistoric appearance, seeing one in the wild feels like stepping into another world.

Hippos may spend much of their time in water, but they also come out to graze on land, usually during the cooler hours of the evening and night.

Despite their enormous size, hippos are excellent swimmers and can spend hours in water during the heat of the day. When they come ashore, they can travel surprisingly long distances in search of grass.

And those sounds? 😄 Hippos communicate through grunts, honks, wheezes and loud calls—just like the ones you can hear in this video.
