MEET THE NAMERS | 21st KWITA IZINA 2026

Today, Rwanda welcomes distinguished personalities from across the world to the 21st Kwita Izina Gorilla Naming Ceremony, taking place on 4 September 2026 in Kinigi, Musanze District.

This year’s Namers bring together influential voices from conservation, sport, business, entertainment, tourism and culture, united by a shared commitment to protecting Rwanda’s mountain gorillas and their natural habitat.

Among the distinguished Namers are Alastair Fothergill, Patrice Evra, Mamadou Sakho, Shaikha Al Nuwais, Ahmed Sadek Elsewedy, Israel Mbonyi, Johanna Ameloot Kenza and Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo, among other notable conservation champions and global personalities.

Their participation represents more than the giving of names. It is a powerful statement of global partnership, conservation leadership and our collective responsibility to safeguard nature for generations to come.
