It's hard recycling what's not original! Afrobeats but most importantly pidgin are not Bebe Cool’s style. Honestly with ‘Motivation’, the beats and visuals are really good but the vocals are lacking!
Any music purist can tell that the experienced singer is straining his husky voice to pull it off. The same with the previous one, ‘Circumference’.
I still believe that us East Africans have a voice texture meant for a different type of sound. This West African thing ain’t for us! At some point, even Goodlyf tried adding Pidgin in their craft but they eventually dropped it off. Eddy Kenzo has been massively successful internationally without sounding Nigerian.
For example, arguably Bebe Cool’s biggest song ‘Love You Everyday’ gained continental recognition but it wasn’t influenced by Nigerian sound.
No matter how sharp, a borrowed knife can’t carve your story.
