Last week, NSSGA Director of Sustainability Kyle Brashear had the opportunity to join Congressman Brad Knott and representatives from the offices of Senator Ted Budd, Senator Thom Tillis and Rep. Richard Hudson for a visit to Sunrock Industries’ Butner Quarry in Butner, NC. Organized by the Carbon Removal Alliance, the tour highlighted the important role that aggregates operations play in supporting local infrastructure and economic development, as well as emerging agricultural and sustainability solutions. The site visit and tour provided a valuable opportunity to connect policymakers with material producers, local farmers, academia and other stakeholders who are taking advantage of recent advancements in enhanced rock weathering practices and carbon credit programs. Thank you to members from Sunrock Industries, Lithos Carbon, the Carbon Removal Alliance, Yale University and Google for helping facilitate a productive conversation about future sustainability initiatives in our industry.
