Originally from St. George, Utah, and now based in Salt Lake City, James joins us as a Classification Principal. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions in commercial solutions, sales, marketing, pricing, and operations, bringing valuable industry knowledge to his new role. 🚛

A few fun facts about James: His favorite meal is a tie between Mexican food and pizza. 🌮🍕 And while he's not much of a karaoke singer, he's been rocking out in live bands since he was 13, even opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He still writes and records original music, and his favorite song to sing is "Hurts So Good" by John Cougar. 🎸

In his downtime, James enjoys reading Let Them by Mel Robbins and watching Seinfeld. 📺

His idea of a perfect weekend? Sitting aboard a cruise ship with ice cream in hand, enjoying endless ocean views. 🚢

The carrier checks out. The authority is active. The safety record looks clean. But the person on the other end of the email isn’t that carrier. 🚩

Carrier identity theft can lead to a fictitious pickup: criminals impersonate a legitimate company, book the load, and drive away with it. Verisk CargoNet counted 158 reported fictitious pickups in Q2 2026, and business email compromise remains a key tactic.

Three quick checks:
🔸 Compare the email domain letter by letter—think https://bit.ly/4zBavhr (https://bit.ly/4zBavhr) vs. https://bit.ly/4s78xmh (https://bit.ly/4s78xmh).
🔸 Call back on the number from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) record, not the signature block.
🔸 Confirm the driver, truck, and trailer at pickup match what you booked.

Trust the company. Verify the contact.🔍

🚩 You booked the load. But do you know who's actually hauling it?

This Freight Fraud Friday, watch for these six warning signs of double brokering:
🔸 Inconsistent carrier information
🔸 Communication gaps or delays
🔸 Payment disputes before delivery
🔸 A different carrier arrives
🔸 Driver details or tracking are withheld
🔸 Requests to conceal identity

These signs warrant investigation; they do not confirm double brokering. Pause and verify. 🔍

NMFTA is pleased to announce that the Docket 2026-2 Disposition Bulletin is now available. This bulletin highlights a significant number of items moving to full-scale density-based classification.

In simple terms, freight class for these items will now be based on how much space a shipment occupies relative to its weight. This approach provides a more accurate, fair, and consistent classification system that is simpler, more measurable, and better aligned with how freight moves.

But density doesn't tell the whole story for every product.
