Some of the best hangar flying happens right here 🇺🇸✈️

Tucked inside the FBO at Tradewind is a little room that feels like a pilot's den. There's a shelf full of model aircraft lined up wing to wing, a helmet keeping watch from the top row, and on the wall the most famous World War I flying ace of them all, Snoopy himself, scarf flying and ready to take on the Red Baron.

It's the kind of spot where a quick fuel stop turns into an hour of stories. Somebody points at a model and says "I used to fly one of those," and before long the whole room is swapping memories of old airplanes, old friends, and the flights that made them who they are.

That's what a hometown airfield is all about. Next time you're on the field, pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and stay a while. We'd love to hear your stories too. 🇺🇸

Every pilot's story starts at a door like this one 🇺🇸✈️

Right inside the FBO here at Tradewind, those blue letters on the glass say FLIGHT SCHOOL. It's a simple sign, but think about how many logbooks have started behind doors just like it. A first lesson, a first preflight, a first time feeling the wheels come off the ground.

Hometown airfields like Tradewind have always been where folks come to learn, to fly, and to fall in love with aviation. Some went on to fly for the airlines, some for the military, and plenty just for the joy of a Sunday flight over the Panhandle.

If you've ever wondered what it would take to earn your wings, or you know a young person who keeps looking up every time an airplane goes over, come by the FBO and ask us about getting started. The coffee's on, and we'd love to help you take that first step through the door. 🇺🇸

Some of the best formation flying on earth has been done by women 🇺🇸✈️

Just down the hall from the Women's Wall in the Tradewind Airport Museum, there's a section called "International Aerobatic Teams with Women Pilots." It honors women who earned a seat on the world's elite military demonstration teams, each story framed beside the flag of the country she flew for.

One of them is Nicole Malachowski, who in 2006 became the first woman to fly as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Next to her are pilots from teams around the world, from Russia to South Africa and well beyond, all of them flying wingtip to wingtip at the very top of the craft.

Flying a demo team slot takes thousands of hours, steady nerves, and a whole crew on the ground who make every show possible. We think that's a story worth telling, especially to the young folks just starting out in aviation.

Come out to the FBO and take a walk through the museum sometime. The coffee's on, and we'd love to show you around. 🇺🇸

Know Ye That… Wayne Needham is another recipient of the Bird Dog award! 🐕✈️

Congratulations, Wayne! The Texas Birddog has been part of the family here at Tradewind Airport since the 1950s, and it's a real treat to keep that tradition going right here in our FBO lobby.

Outstanding women pilots who left a mark on aviation history 🇺🇸✈️

One of the newest corners of the Tradewind Airport Museum is our Women's Wall. Stretched across an aviation chart, it honors women pilots, record-setters, and astronauts from around the world, each framed portrait and story paired with the flag of the country she called home.

They broke barriers in open cockpits, in the military, and all the way to orbit, and they made the sky a bigger place for everyone who came after them. Every time we walk past this wall, we think about the young pilots, mechanics, and line crew who are just getting started, and who might see a little of their own future up there.

The Women's Wall was made possible by the generosity of Diane Dick and Michelle Dick. Thank you both for helping us tell these stories. 💐

Next time you're out at the field, stop by the FBO and take a walk through the museum. Bring your daughters, your granddaughters, and anyone who has ever looked up and wondered. We'd love to show you around.

From the Texas Panhandle to the planets 🪐🇺🇸

Tucked inside the Tradewind Airport Museum, just past our NASA and astronaut wall, is one of our favorite little corners: a walk-through of our solar system, with each planet sitting on its own shelf along the wall. Above them hang the Apollo patch, the Artemis mission emblem, the Mars 2020 artwork, and a lunar mission trajectory chart.

It's a fun reminder that the same curiosity that got folks off the ground here in the Panhandle keeps pushing people farther, all the way to the Moon and Mars. Plenty of kids who stop by to look at the airplanes leave here asking about rockets, too. We love that.

Next time you're out at the field, come by the FBO and take a stroll through the museum. Bring the kids, bring your questions, and say hi to the line crew while you're here. Thank you for helping us keep this history alive. ✈️🚀

🎃 Gates open soon! Trunk or Treat at Tradewind Airport is TONIGHT starting at 6 PM.

Tuesday, October 13, 6 to 7:30 PM at 4105 Tradewind St. Music, food trucks, airplanes, and candy trunk to trunk. $5 entry per car.

Here's the night:
🚗 6:00 PM — roll onto the ramp and start trick-or-treating
✈️ 6:15 PM — airplane candy drop begins
🎵 Food trucks and music until 7:30 PM

🍬 Still want to hand out candy? Contact Elva at Tradewind now — we can still use helpers on the line.

✈️ Pilots, last chance: contact Tradewind to get on the candy-drop list. Airplane slots are limited.

Costumes on, trunks packed — we'll see you on the ramp in about half an hour! 🛩️🎃
