Friends, I'd like to share with you some details about a very unfortunate situation that happened on Saturday the 27th.
A Cessna 185 after landing runway 17 had a loss of control and departed the runway to the East before coming to rest just over the airport boundary fence, about 1000' North of the runway center point. The pilot was able to self-extract before help arrived and was check and released by a local hospital. The aircraft was significantly damaged. The FAA and NTSB were immediately notified and in the following hours after a pilot interview and photographs of the scene, released the aircraft for recovery, which has already occurred.
More details will be made later this week when the preliminary accident report is published by the FAA.
We are very grateful that no one was seriously injured and our thoughts and prayers go out for the pilot and his family, that they will recover quickly from this traumatic event.
We are also very grateful to the first responders for their quick response to the scene.
To those who witnessed the event our sincere thanks for the help some of you offered and a prayer that all of you will soon heal from the memory. Let's all be thankful for the outcome.

Respectfully Yours,
Staff of KAXX and the Village of Angel Fire

Friends, we have had a busy and exciting two weeks here at KAXX. Father's Day weekend saw the annual Balloon Festival, with over 35 balloons participating. Friday morning saw a picture-perfect launch. Unfortunately, Saturday and Sunday the winds aloft prevented a launch but other activities in the Village provided a great day for all.

This past week the Air Affair event brought friends and families in to fly kites, watch drone racing and enjoy movie nights in the hangar. This is an event we will continue to build on and hopefully see an increase in aircraft on display and other aviation activities. Plan to join us next year!

The airport construction projects are complete except for some cosmetic work on the new door. If you are planning to come visit and need hangar space it is back available. All the new lighting is in service including the beacon, which has been on for two weeks now!
FAA flight check should certify the new PAPI approach lighting system by summers end. The airport sponsorship change and the PAPI are subject to government approval which sometimes is a bit glacial in speed but will happen!

Thank you to all who support our wonderful airport and surrounding communities!

Friends, the Balloons over Angel Fire is almost here! We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event!

Friends, we have 100LL avgas back available today @ $8.20 per gallon.
The hangar door support structure is up and whole new door is expected to be completed by the end of next week. There will be some cosmetic work around the new door that will be a few more weeks to complete.
The fuel spill containment pad and fuel pump cover are on track to be completed by months end also.
Thank you so much for your patience as all these projects have been underway, we hope you will like the improvements, and we look forward to showing you even more progress as the Village moves the airport forward. Already on the books for next year will be the rehab of the taxiways and potentially a new AWOS system.

Friends, the airport improvement project progress is moving towards completion by months end. The new door is onsite and is on schedule to be operational by the 29th. The fuel spill containment pad and pump covering will also be done by then.
The PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) is installed but will not be in service until FAA Flight Standards completes an inspection (the PLASI remains in service).
For you interested folks this is a new state of the art LED system that looks nothing like the systems we have seen in the past, come by for a tour.

100 LL should be available by next weekend.

Balloons in June! Father's Day weekend check the Village of Angel Visit Angel Fire website for more info.

Dear Residents and Property Owners,

The Angel Fire Airport lighting system upgrade by the Federal Aviation Administration to improve reliability, efficiency, and energy savings, is almost complete. One important component that has been neglected for many years is the airport beacon and it will be switched back on next week.

Airport beacons, also known as rotating beacons, function much like lighthouses for pilots. Their primary purpose is to help pilots identify the location of an airport at night or during low-visibility weather conditions.

While modern navigation technologies have reduced reliance on visual beacons in some situations, these systems remain an important part of aviation safety. In mountainous terrain such as ours, especially during nighttime or adverse weather conditions, an airport beacon can provide critical guidance to pilots who may need to land quickly during an emergency.

The Village and the FAA recognize concerns regarding light pollution and are taking steps to minimize impacts on the community. The upgraded beacon's angle will be adjusted to the highest level permitted under FAA regulations to reduce unnecessary light exposure to surrounding areas.

We appreciate your understanding and support as these important safety improvements are completed. The airport beacon is more than a federal requirement — it is a visible commitment to the safety of pilots, passengers, emergency responders, and the broader aviation community that serves our region.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the airport staff directly for help.
