I was upset because the call they make when they get on the military base on day 1 was going to be made to my ex-husband. You only get to call 1 person. It is a scripted very short quick call, maybe 15 seconds long just letting them know they made it there.

Andrew just landed in San Diego and he called me from the plane. I got to talk to him for a couple minutes. Him calling me was soooo much better than the scripted call he will make shortly to his dad. It made my heart smile. I miss him so much, but I’m proud of him for choosing this path and serving his country.

Today is bitter sweet and filled with a million different emotions. Andrew’s ship date kept getting delayed, but today is finally the day. Today is the day he takes the oath. Today is the day he flies to San Diego. Today is the day he steps onto the yellow footprints where he goes from Poolee to Recruit. Today is day 1 of Receiving Week. Today is the beginning of the next 13 weeks of boot camp that will change his life forever.

My mother and I got to spend some time with him yesterday playing pool. When he hugged me goodbye last night he held on tight. It was the longest and best hug he’s ever given me. It was a hug I’ll never forget. Honestly, I’m not sure who needed the hug more me or him.

He’s excited and scared, but he has faith. I sent him with a bible that I highlighted several verses in to help give him encouragement.

I keep reminding myself it’s okay to have all the feels as long as I’m more proud than anything else.

Please keep Andrew and all of our military along with their families in your thoughts and prayers.
