It comes as no surprise that Falls Lake is lower than normal again. It has been a brutal summer for many of our local lakes, and Falls is no exception. This wake boat found itself in a sticky situation- aground and requiring assistance. Though they were in knee deep water, they draw a decent amount of water and their running gear was stuck in the bottom. After weighing all options, it was decided that snatching their bow perpendicular would yield the best results. Thankfully they were able to get pulled free and back underway. Unfortunately, they were not members- Ouch.

Thank you Clean Jordan Lake for allowing us to help be stewards of environmental advocacy on the lakes we cherish and love. Littering is inevitable, nobody is perfect- but it's up to us to then help clean up so we can enjoy this resource for generations to come.

There’s only one thing harder than flipping a pontoon: flipping it back. 🙃

Some calls stop even a seasoned captain in their tracks, and this was one of them. First question: is everyone okay? Thankfully, yes. Nobody was hurt.

Pontoons are about as stable as boats get, so how does one end up upside down? Usually it’s weight: too many people crowded on the bow, water coming over the front, or uneven loading in chop. Keep passengers spread out and respect the capacity plate.

A flipped outboard means fuel in the water, so before anything else we threw down absorbent pads, contained the spill area and cleaned up what we could on scene. Protecting the lake is part of the job.

Then came the hard part: getting a few thousand pounds of aluminum back right side up. It took some patience and the right rigging, but she’s back upright💪

Grounded pontoon, stubborn sandbar, low water — and a job significant enough that it went through the owner’s insurance.

We work directly with insurance claims when a recovery is beyond a standard tow, so the boat gets handled right and the owner isn’t left figuring it out alone.

Customer’s note afterward: ‘These guys are great… very difficult pull for a grounded pontoon. They kept working till the boat was back in deep water. Don’t call 911, call Red Clay Marine for your boating recovery service on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island!’

Sometimes it’s dramatic. Sometimes it’s just a simple tow home on a nice afternoon.

This one had a membership on file, so it was an easy call — line out, tow in, done. No stress, no surprise bill.

Fleet maintenance day at Jordan Lake for some of our boats🛠️

We hold our own equipment to the same standard we’d want if we were the ones calling for a tow — oil changes, full inspections, and a once-over on everything that keeps us ready. After a very busy summer, we had to make sure the boats were in tip top shape as we prepare for amazing temperatures and continued boating weather.

Unfortunate circumstances happen all the time. We’re here to help.

This one took on water from storm rain and started sinking right at the dock. No warning, no dramatic moment — just steady rain and a boat that wasn’t watched closely enough during the storm.

A quick reminder as we head into storm season: check on your boat after heavy rain, make sure your bilge pump is working, and don’t assume a covered slip means you’re safe from taking on water.

A dead battery on Shearon Harris Lake turned into a full tow back in. What started as a quick jump attempt didn’t take, so we towed them home safe.

🚨It’s Tow Tuesday🚨
Not every call is a dead battery. This little sailboat turned turtle out on the lake.🐢
When we got the call we came out, righted the boat, towed it back to the ramp, pumped it out, and got it back on the trailer.
Everyone on this job was safe due to smart boating and coast guard approved life jackets.

🚨It’s Tow Tuesday🚨
Jordan, Falls, Harris, Kerr. All four had calls this weekend. Nobody plans on breaking down over Labor Day, but that’s why we’re here. Thank you to every boater who trusted us to get them back to the dock safely. Additionally, thank you to all of the Towboat U.S. captains who made this busy Labor Day weekend so successful.
