A night storm passed through and left us with a peaceful, flat sea for our final paddle, as if the island wanted to say a gentle goodbye.

The new European Entry Exit System EES is now fully operational as of 10 April 2026.
If you are travelling to Italy from a non EU country, please be aware that border control may take longer than usual. Waiting times can reach up to four hours, both when you arrive in Italy and when you depart back to a non EU country.

If you are flying into Italy, the longer wait will be when you land, as the EES checks are done on arrival.
It is also important to check where your flight connection takes place and ask your airline for guidance, because waiting times can vary from airport to airport.

To make things easier, you can register your details in advance using the Travel to Europe mobile app:

A quiet moment inside Lord Byron’s Grotto in Portovenere.
This is what I love most about a gentle day on the water. No rush, no racing, just enjoying the light, the sea and the silence of this beautiful grotto. And then Marie Bennet, who is a professional flute player, began to play. Her music echoed against the rock walls so softly that we all stopped paddling just to listen.

Moments like this remind me that a kayaking journey can be as peaceful as you want it to be. Time to breathe, time to feel present, time to simply enjoy where you are.
