Ever taken a moment to appreciate our highway heroes? These road warriors keep America moving! Without truck drivers and their powerful rigs, everything would grind to a halt. Huge thanks to them!

A great cause!

From Gary Schmitz - American Legion Riders, Department of Iowa District 8 Chairman

I am reaching out to you on behalf of the District 8 of Iowa American Legion family to ask for your support for this vital national cause: The American Legion Legacy Run.

The 20th Anniversary Legacy Run will take place from August 23-27, 2026. During this historic year, hundreds of American Legion Riders will trek more than 1,000 miles across the country to raise money for The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF). What's significant this year is it will be coming right down Highway 30 through Carroll and stopping for gas at the Sinclair gas station on the east side of Carroll. We want Carroll to show up in force to show our pride to all these riders.

To help make this year's run a success, we are seeking donations. By supporting our local effort, you will be directly contributing to the VCF while gaining visibility for your business among our vast network of veterans, patriots, and community members.

Would you be willing to support our efforts with a contribution? Donations can be made by mailing it to District 8's Finance Officer - Tom Loughran at 208 Main St, Breda, IA 51436 by August 15th or hand delivered on August 13th between 11:00am-3:00pm at Wendl's Weapons' parking lot in Carroll.

Please make checks out to:
American Legion of Iowa, District 8; memo: 2026 Legacy Run.

Additionally donations can be made to my Venmo: Gary-Schmitz-3; memo: 2026 Legacy Run

Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your continued support of our nation's veterans and their families. Any questions can be directed to me.

For God and Country,

Gary Schmitz

A good reminder to keep everyone safe. Large trucks and buses have huge blind spots. If you can’t see the driver in their mirror, they likely can’t see you. Give them space and pass safely.
