Moving to a new home can be exciting, but also stressful. There are many things to consider and prepare before you pack your belongings and say goodbye to your old place. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your upcoming move and make it a smooth and hassle-free experience.
- Start planning early. As soon as you know your moving date, you should start making a list of tasks and deadlines. This will help you avoid procrastination and last-minute rush. Some of the things you should plan ahead are: hiring a moving company or renting a truck, notifying your utility providers and changing your address, sorting out your belongings and deciding what to keep, donate or sell, gathering packing supplies and labeling boxes, arranging childcare or pet care if needed, etc.
- De-clutter your home. Moving is a great opportunity to get rid of the things you no longer need or use. Not only will this make your packing easier and faster, but it will also save you money on moving costs and space in your new home. You can start by going through each room and category of items (clothes, books, kitchenware, etc.) and separating them into piles: keep, donate, sell or trash. Some of the things you should do are: confirm the details with your moving company or truck rental service, check the weather forecast and plan accordingly, pack a survival kit with snacks, drinks, phone chargers, etc., clean your old home and take pictures of its condition for reference, set aside some cash for tips or emergencies, etc.
- Enjoy your new home. Congratulations! You have successfully moved to your new home. Now it's time to unpack, settle in and enjoy your new space. You don't have to unpack everything at once; take your time and prioritize the rooms and items that you need the most.
