🚨FMCSA Removes 12 ELDs from Registered List 🚨

Today, FMCSA removed 12 Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) from its list of approved devices for use in commercial motor vehicles.

“Safety is not optional, and neither is compliance. FMCSA is serious about removing unsafe and unreliable electronic logging devices from the market and holding manufacturers accountable to federal safety standards. These standards are in place to help protect everyone traveling on American roads,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs.

Drivers using the revoked ELD must switch to paper logs immediately. Motor carriers have 60 days to replace the device.

Since January 2025, FMCSA has removed 79 devices that failed to meet Federal standards to ensure the technical integrity of the ELD program.

Autonomous trucking is shifting from early pilots toward full-scale commercial launches. How quickly might driverless trucks become more widely available?

CVSA International Roadcheck 2026 is now underway across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with inspectors conducting roadside and facility inspections through May 14.

This year’s three-day enforcement effort is placing special focus on ELD tampering, log falsification, driver compliance, and cargo securement. Inspectors are reviewing hours-of-service records, CDL status, medical certificates, driver qualifications, seat belt use, and signs of impairment. In the U.S., officers also check the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

On the vehicle side, inspectors are examining cargo securement equipment, brake systems, tires, lighting, suspension, steering, and other key safety components. Drivers or vehicles with serious violations may be placed out of service.

The annual Roadcheck event can also affect freight capacity and spot rates as some drivers stay off the road during the inspection period.
