4:03 p.m. AIRPORT UPDATE: The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport terminal has reopened after law enforcement personnel cleared the area and is now fully operational. The previous request to avoid the airport and surrounding area has been lifted.

Travelers should check directly with their airline for the latest flight information, including potential delays or schedule changes.
Thank you to the public for your patience and cooperation and for giving law enforcement and emergency personnel the space needed to respond.

Highway 82 remains open for both upvalley and downvalley travel. Please continue to avoid the airport and surrounding area until further notice unless traveling on hwy 82.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Drivers traveling upvalley on Highway 82 should expect lane closures near the north side of Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, Monday through Saturday, Sept. 28 through Oct. 10.

Highway 82 will remain open in its normal configuration from 6–9 a.m. for the morning commute. Outside of those hours, plan for potential delays and use caution through the construction area.

The work is part of ongoing construction preparing ASE for the 2027 runway reconstruction.

IMPACTO AL TRÁFICO: Conductores que viajen hacia Aspen por la autopista 82 deben anticipar cierres de carriles cerca del extremo norte del Aeropuerto de Aspen/Pitkin County, de lunes a sábado, del 28 de septiembre al 10 de octubre.

La Carretera 82 permanecerá abierta con normalidad de 6 a 9 de la mañana para facilitar el tráfico. Fuera de ese horario, prepárese para posibles demoras y conduzca con precaución al pasar por la zona de construcción.

The first of two layers of asphalt is being laid on Owl Creek Road today, marking another step forward in the airport’s early construction work. A second layer of asphalt is expected to be added in October. Travelers on Owl Creek Road should continue to expect alternating one-lane traffic, brief delays and night work as construction continues through October.

By the end of November, Owl Creek Road and trails will be paved back in their new alignments. Work is progressing on a various utility relocations along with the road including water lines, power, and communications infrastructure.

The work is part of the first construction phase of the ASE Airport Modernization Project and is preparing the site for the airport’s 2027 runway reconstruction.

Crews are realigning portions of Owl Creek Road and the Owl Creek Trail, relocating underground utilities, extending the Owl Creek culvert, shifting the Airport Operations Center parking lot, and constructing temporary access and staging areas to support next year’s runway work.

Thank you for your patience and caution while traveling through the construction area.

Parking rates will be updated in both the Bear Lot and Elk Lot Aspen/Pitkin County Airport beginning Oct. 1, 2026.
The updated rates are intended to help ASE better manage limited parking availability for travelers and employees.
Bear Lot (short-term)
• $6/hour
• $28 daily maximum
Elk Lot (long-term)
• $3/hour
• $15 daily maximum
The first 30 minutes will remain free, and the existing surge-pricing structure will be eliminated in favor of standard hourly and daily rates.

UPDATE: Temporary Flight Restrictions have been removed from ASE and are no longer in effect. Huge thank you to the hard work of our first responders as they continue to work to keep our valley safe, the diligence and collaboration from our airlines and the community’s patience during this disruption.

ACTUALIZACIÓN: Las restricciones temporales de vuelo en ASE han sido levantadas y ya no están vigentes.
