Last night was date night in Seaside!

We finally made it to Music Bingo at Sisu Brewing Co. inside the Times Theatre, and what a fun night! The place was PACKED, the energy was great, the prizes were amazing, and we had such a good time.

I love seeing events like this happening in Seaside—especially as we head into the fall and winter months. There really is plenty to do at the coast after summer ends.

And rumor has it… Music Bingo might be coming back in December! If it does, I definitely recommend putting it on your calendar.

Great job, Sisu and Times Theatre! We’ll be back.

Seaside has SO much to offer—and there are so many different ways to experience it!

Hit the dirt bike trails, visit the Seaside Aquarium and feed the seals, or give a little back while you’re here. Stop by the Seaside Visitor Center, Seaside Chamber, or Aquarium to learn about volunteer opportunities through Woods & Waves.

Walk the 1.5-mile Promenade and take in the Pacific Ocean. Watch the surfers, look for wildlife, and keep your eyes on the horizon—you may even spot a whale!

Head down to the beach and hunt for sand dollars and other treasures. Learn how to read a tide chart and discover how much the beach changes between high and low tide. Beachcombing can turn into an entire adventure when you know what to look for.

Paint a rock and leave it at Painted Rock Beach for someone else to discover.

Then head to Broadway Street for family entertainment, fun shops, local businesses, great places to eat, and plenty to keep everyone busy.

One of the things I love about Seaside is that you can spend an entire day exploring without everything being outrageously priced.

There’s nature, wildlife, shopping, food, family fun, volunteering, beachcombing, history, and of course—the Pacific Ocean.

Seaside isn’t just a place to look at the beach. It’s a place to explore, participate, and get curious.

Curiosity of a Traveler 🦌

Take a close look at this beautiful Roosevelt elk bull. Can you spot what’s different about his antlers?

One of his points is broken!

Bull elk can break their antlers while sparring or fighting with other bulls, rubbing against trees, or simply moving through the thick forests and brush here on the Oregon Coast.

September is also the beginning of elk rut season, when the bulls become much more active, vocal, and competitive.

The broken point won’t grow back this year, but elk shed their antlers and grow an entirely new set each year. Next year, he gets a brand-new rack.

We are fortunate to see Roosevelt elk regularly around Warrenton and the North Oregon Coast. You never know what wildlife might show up during a tour!

Please remember to admire elk from a safe distance, especially during rut season. They are wild animals, and bulls can be unpredictable this time of year.

💍 There must be something in the coastal air…

This past week, I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming couples celebrating some incredible wedding anniversaries aboard Onward Adventures:

❤️ 50 years
❤️ 57 years
❤️ 58 years
❤️ 60 years

That’s 225 years of marriage riding in my vehicles in just one week!

One of my favorite parts of being a tour guide is getting to know the people who climb aboard. We may start the day talking about the Oregon Coast, history, shipwrecks and beautiful places—but somewhere along the way, I get to hear pieces of their stories too.

This week was filled with couples who have built lives together, traveled together, laughed together, and clearly still enjoy being together after all these years.

Congratulations to all of these wonderful couples, and thank you for choosing Onward Adventures to be a small part of your anniversary adventures.

Here’s to many more years—and many more adventures together. ❤️

🌲 Curiosity of a Traveler 🌲

During a recent tour, a traveler asked:

“Has a Christmas tree from Oregon ever been used as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City?”

The answer appears to be no. According to the published history of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, none has come from Oregon. Most have been Norway spruce trees from New York and other eastern states.

However, Oregon has provided the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., twice! In 2002, a 70-foot Douglas fir came from the Umpqua National Forest. In 2018, an 82-foot noble fir traveled from the Willamette National Forest to stand on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

Oregon may not have made it to Rockefeller Center yet, but our beautiful trees have represented the entire country in our nation’s capital!

Oregon is famous for growing beautiful Christmas trees, so it was a great question—and exactly the kind of curiosity I love on my tours.

A minus tide at the South Jetty reveals an entirely different world!

When the Pacific pulls back far enough, the rocks that normally disappear beneath the water come alive with things we rarely get to see up close — sea stars, mussels, gooseneck barnacles, crabs and entire little communities tucked into the rocks.

Today we even spotted a Dungeness crab hiding among the barnacles!

This is one of my favorite things about exploring the Oregon North Coast. You can visit the same place over and over, but the tide decides what you get to see.

Sometimes the best part of an adventure is simply looking a little closer.

🌿 Over 100 Years of Astoria History 🌿

Take a look at this incredible old rhododendron in Astoria!

After more than 100 years of growing on the Oregon Coast, its twisting trunks, exposed roots and massive branches make it look more like a little forest than a rhododendron.

I love finding things like this around Astoria. History isn’t always found inside a museum or written on a plaque. Sometimes it’s still growing right in front of us.
