Athens Area Stand Down

Athens Area Stand Down The Athens Area Stand Down is held the first Friday of October every year at the Athens County Fair Grounds, 286 W. Union Ave., Athens, Ohio. Admission is free.

The event helps homeless and near homeless people by getting them resources to help them through the winter months. Open to veteran and non-veterans. Veterans need to bring their military ID to obtain veteran specific items. Those from Athens County and Surrounding Counties are invited to attend. Free Transportation is available on Athens Transit System on the day of the event. Veterans within the

Athens County area may be eligible for free transportation. Reduced fare rides may be available as well. This is a community driven event with the help of many participating agencies and businesses.

The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce has compiled a list of Food Assistance Programs in the Athens Ohio Area in order to assist and serve those effected by ongoing SNAP benefit disruptions in Ohio. This list includes low and no cost programs and may include programs with eligibility requirements. This list will be updated on a rolling basis. https://athenschamber.com/food-programs

Thanks to everyone who made the 2025 Athens Area Stand Down event a success! The total number of persons benefiting from event were 127! 103 of those were Veterans and 24 were non-Veterans!

Including members in the same “household” 213 individuals were helped, with upwards of 40 children being impacted thru our assistance!

Thank you all for helping them and us have a wonderful 10th year!
