BGSC Book Club is back — and this one is going to be a conversation. 📖

We’re excited to welcome Reesa Teesa Tareasa M. Johnson for a special virtual Book Club experience centered around self-worth, heartbreak, healing, discernment, starting over, and what happens when life doesn’t go according to plan.

This won’t just be about the story.

We’re talking about the parts so many women can relate to: rebuilding trust in yourself, grieving what you thought your life would look like, recognizing when hope has kept you somewhere too long, finding your confidence again, and learning how to move forward without allowing heartbreak to harden you.

Come ready for an honest conversation, reflection, and a few moments that might have you saying, “Whew… I needed to hear that.”

Friendship Etiquette-Let’s Talk About It: Can You Invite Other People to Plans You Made With a Friend? 💭

The proper thing to do is to ask first.
If you made plans with a friend, they may have agreed to just plans with you — not you plus three other people.

Adding people can completely change the dynamic of the outing.

A few things to consider:
💗Was this clearly a one-on-one plan? Dinner, coffee, catching up, or something intimate usually implies one-on-one time.
💗Does your friend know the person you want to invite? Even then, asking is still considerate.
💗Will adding someone change the purpose of the plans? A heart-to-heart turns into small talk very quickly when a third person arrives.
💗Are you putting your friend in a position where saying “no” feels rude? Don’t ask when the person is already on the way.
💗Is this a ticketed, reserved, or hosted event? Definitely don’t add guests without checking if this is an intimate, invite only event. Ticketed events can be different, if it’s open to the public.
💗Do you do this often? If every one-on-one plan becomes a group hang, your friend may start wondering whether you actually value time alone with her.

Sometimes people invite others because they think, “The more the merrier.” But not everybody experiences friendship that way. That doesn’t make them antisocial or possessive. It’s important to honor each individual friend. BUT, it’s also worth noting that being open to other friends is also healthy.

The easiest etiquette rule?
If the invitation wasn’t yours, the guest list isn’t yours either. And if you made the plans with your friend, a quick:
“Hey, would you mind if I invited Maya too, or did you want this to just be us?”
goes a long way.

Finding out you’re a B-roll friend can sting.

You thought you were one of *the* friends. Then you notice who gets called first, invited first, included in the important moments, or considered when plans are made…and suddenly, your place in the friendship feels a little different than you imagined.

That realization can hurt, but it doesn’t always mean the friendship is fake. Sometimes two people simply have different ideas about how close they are.

The question becomes: Can you enjoy the friendship for what it actually is instead of constantly being upset about what you thought it was?

You don’t have to punish them, compete for a higher spot, or prove your value.

But you *can* adjust your expectations, and match the level of investment.

Have you ever realized you ranked differently in a friendship than you thought you did?
