This week’s feature: EarWax Records Exhibit: The Heartbeat of Atlanta Hip Hop, located in Concourse E - Gate E14

Opened in 1993 during the era of Jack The Rapper Family Affair and Freaknik, EarWax Records became far more than a record store. Founded by Jasz Smith, El Shabazz, and Talib Shabazz, the shop fused the foundational energy of New York Hip Hop with Atlanta’s rapidly growing music culture, creating a space that helped shape the sound and spirit of the city.

Located at Peachtree and 11th Streets, EarWax became a gathering place for artists, DJs, producers, athletes, entertainers, and music lovers from across Atlanta and beyond. Covered in graffiti art by Justice and lined with posters and vinyl, the store transformed Midtown into a cultural destination long before the area became what it is today.

Known for legendary in store appearances, midnight releases, packed house parties, and one of the most respected vinyl collections in the South, EarWax left a lasting imprint on Atlanta’s Hip Hop identity. Even after closing in 2008, its influence continues to echo through the city’s music scene.

This exhibit celebrates EarWax Records not only as a store, but as a movement, a meeting place, and a cornerstone of Atlanta’s Hip Hop legacy.

What people see here matters! 🇿🇦✈️🇺🇸

Yesterday, we unveiled an amazing sculpture, a tribute to Nelson Mandela that will impact every person who crosses its path! A monument that also reflects the growing connection between Atlanta and South Africa.

Atlanta and South Africa share histories shaped by movements that changed the world. Both know what it means to turn struggle into progress and use leadership to move people forward.

As the front door to the world and the world’s front door to Atlanta, ATL has the opportunity to give travelers more than a destination. We can give them meaning.

Mandela stood for courage, sacrifice, discipline, and unity. Every passenger who passes through ATL will now encounter a reminder that leadership is about service, courage is greater than fear, and art can speak across borders.

This installation reflects the values that continue to connect our people and communities. For millions passing through ATL, it will leave a lasting sense of meaning long after they move on to their next destination!

Parking at ATL just got a serious upgrade 🚘✈️

The new South Red Deck is bringing 7,000+ parking spaces to the airport, because, apparently, some of y’all really do wait until the last possible second to head to your flight.

Anyway.. with ticketless entry and exit, 100+ EV chargers, premium parking options, and direct terminal access, getting from your car to check-in is about to be a whole lot smoother!

Today’s feature highlights Plastic Reimagined: Material Agency and Circular Design

Developed through a graduate design research studio at Georgia Tech’s School of Architecture, Plastic Reimagined explores the afterlife of post-consumer plastics and rethinks their role within design and architecture. Through a combination of hands-on fabrication and computational design, students transformed discarded plastic into new spatial and structural forms.

Sourced from campus makerspaces, Zero Waste collection streams, and local recycling systems, the material was ground, reprocessed, and reimagined into striking works that challenge ideas of waste, utility, and permanence. Each chair on display serves as both an object and a conversation about sustainability, ethics, and the future of design.

By pairing material circularity with innovative design practices, Plastic Reimagined invites travelers to consider how discarded materials can become catalysts for creativity and change.
