Another airport visit for Chipper, our $8995 two place airframe kit, and some very significant testing progress:
Two way speed test check using GPS in dirty (non-aerofaired) condition with tundra tires
Conditions:
Rotax 912UL, [80HP maximum @ 5800RPM]
Test run @ 5000 RPM == 52HP == 62% == 2200 RPM @ Propeller (2.27 reduction ratio)
[for reference, see

PAGE 5-2]
Estimated fuel flow: 3.83 gallons per hour
flaps 15 degrees
21" tundra tires
ALL BRACING & STRUTS -- UNFAIRED (DIRTY)
with wind -- 78 KTS groundspeed
into wind -- 48 KTS
average -- 63 KTS (73 mph)
Estimated fuel economy in this configuration: 19 miles to the gallon.
With long range 28 gallon tanks installed, estimated range: 532 miles to dry tank. This will improve dramatically after the bird is cleaned up.
It seems that hitting 100mph in clean aero faired configuration with smaller wheels just might happen. 😎
ALL INFORMATION SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND FURTHER TESTING.
P.S. > Where's Chipper in this photograph???
