Port of Baltimore Breaks Ground on new Grain Transloading Facility
"Under the new system, a farm truck will come directly into the Seagirt terminal, deposit its grain onto a conveyor system, which will transport it directly into a silo. Ports America Chesapeake will then remove the grain from the silo when it’s ready to ship and place it into containers for export operations.
The facility will encompass four acres, include three grain silos, and be used to facilitate the export of soybeans, corn, wheat, and other agricultural commodities around the world. The facility is expected to be open and operational in August 2026."

"The Port of Baltimore handled approximately 50 million tons of cargo in 2025, making it the Port’s second-best year ever!

The Port of Baltimore’s container business will be enhanced in 2026 with the completion of the $518 million CSX Howard Street Tunnel Project. The project includes modernizing the 130-year-old Baltimore freight tunnel and making clearance adjustments at 22 points between Baltimore and Philadelphia, allowing for double-stacked container trains to travel to and from the Port."

** New Port of Baltimore Records, continuing Historic Recovery following Key Bridge Collapse **
"A new record of 1,113,309 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs)—the standard measurement for containers used to ship goods across the world—were moved through the Seagirt Marine Terminal last year, exceeding the 2023 record by more than 5,000. The terminal also set records for ship calls, or individual vessel visits, with 689, surpassing the 2023 record by nearly 100. These gains coincided with an increase in weekly container services—regular, scheduled vessel routes—from 12 in 2024 to 15 in 2025."
