Today is International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, and we're sending a big π—§π—›π—”π—‘π—ž 𝗬𝗒𝗨 to our friends at Bangor Tower BGR ATCT!

From the first departure of the morning to the arrivals that come long after most of us have called it a day, these dedicated professionals help keep aircraft moving safely through our skies.

It's a job that requires incredible focus, precision, and the ability to stay cool under pressure. And we're grateful to have such a great team watching over our corner of the aviation world.

If you've ever flown through Bangor International Airport and wondered whether those creepy little Langoliers might be lurking somewhere nearby... well, this episode of 𝑢𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘­π’π’š is for YOU. 😳

More than 30 years ago, Hollywood came to Bangor when Stephen King's The Langoliers was filmed right here at BGR. And apparently, some of those toothy little monsters never quite left our reputation behind. πŸ˜‚

Just in time for Halloween, we're taking a trip back to the early 1990's with three people who know a thing or two about what happened when the cameras started rolling! 🎬

Joining us are BGR retirees Heidi Suletzki and Bob Jarvis, who experienced the filming firsthand (and Bob even made it onto the screen!), along with local Stephen King historian and former Betts Bookstore owner Stu Tinker.

πŸ† WELL, WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! Apparently, we're kind of a big deal. 😁

Our friends at WBLM recently shared a list of New England's busiest airports, and guess who landed at number EIGHT?

Yep. Little ol' BGR.

Now, before anyone gets too excited, let's acknowledge that New England only has six states, and the number of airports competing for this prestigious top-ten honor isn't exactly astronomical. πŸ˜‚ But hey, we're on the list, and we're celebrating! πŸŽ‰

Of course, passenger boarding numbers only tell a small part of our story...they don't count the military aircraft that stop here, the international flights that rely on us, the cargo that moves through our airport, or the countless people working behind the scenes to keep it all moving.

Numbers certainly don't measure the heart of this place, including the familiar faces who show up at all hours, in all kinds of weather- the Maine Troop Greeters who have made BGR a place of unforgettable homecomings. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡² We're your hometown airport with a really big runway and an even bigger sense of community.

Are we the busiest airport in New England? Not even close. Are we going to enjoy our moment as number eight? You bet your boarding pass we are. πŸ˜‰

In a place filled with departures and arrivals, there is now a special place to pause and remember. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Yesterday, we welcomed The Summit Project Honor Case to BGR, where it will remain through the holiday season. Just inside our front door, its memorial stones honor fallen Maine service members, with names and stories that invite us to learn about the lives they lived.

Behind every name is a person deeply loved and missed. A family whose lives changed forever. Friends who carry their memories. Stories that deserve to keep being told.

We are grateful to The Summit Project and Maine's Gold Star families for entrusting us with this meaningful responsibility. We will care for these stones with respect, and help carry forward the memories they hold.

The next time you’re at BGR, please take a moment to sit, read their stories and learn their names. Whether you’re heading somewhere or welcoming someone home, there is time to remember those whose homecomings we will always wish for.

A dedication ceremony will follow, but this place of reflection is ready to welcome you now.

Mother Nature rolled in, stirred things up for a bit, and then apparently decided she had somewhere else to be. πŸ˜‚
