Some of the biggest attractions on the carriage roads of Acadia are Rockefeller's Bridges, which were financed and overseen by John D. Rockefeller Jr. between 1917 and 1940.

These 16 bridges were designed to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding nature. While they were originally constructed for horses and carriages, that is not the only way to experience their beauty. Today, you can witness the beauty of Rockefeller's Bridges on a scenic bike ride or a walk along the carriage roads.

The Island Explorer's summer schedule starts today! It's a great way to get around Acadia National Park. Don't forget their Bicycle Shuttle will carry you and your conventional bikes from Kids' Corner in Bar Harbor directly to the north end of Eagle Lake to access the carriage roads.
