🚨 Medicaid Covers Transportation… So Why Can’t I Just Call Any Transportation Company?

This is something many Medicaid families don’t realize.

Having Medicaid doesn’t necessarily mean you can call any transportation company and have the ride covered. NEMT benefits are connected to your specific Medicaid plan, and your plan may have rules about who can arrange your ride, which providers you can use, and how far in advance transportation must be scheduled.

That means there can be a difference between:

“I have Medicaid.”
and
“My Medicaid plan has approved transportation for this trip.”

Before your appointment, contact the Member Services number on your Medicaid card and confirm:

✔️ Whether you have an NEMT benefit
✔️ How transportation must be scheduled
✔️ Whether Touch of Kindness Transportation can be selected as your provider

Understanding that process before you need the ride can save you from finding out at the last minute that your transportation wasn't arranged correctly.

📲 Rideshare drivers are not trained in: mobility aid loading or securing, patient assistance for those with limited mobility, appropriate communication with cognitively impaired passengers, or handling medical equipment.

🚑 NEMT drivers are trained for all of it. For a healthy adult running an errand, rideshare is fine. For your 80-year-old father with Parkinson's going to dialysis - it is not the same thing.
