86 truck drivers arrested in 3 days.
Let me say that again because it's insane: 86 arrests in THREE DAYS.
Operation Highway Shield just swept through Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Ohio. Federal inspectors pulled unqualified drivers off the road, found unsafe trucks that had no business being out there, and uncovered massive CDL fraud.
766 out-of-service orders in one operation.
But here's what really got me thinking about how broken this system was: over 26,000 drivers have been placed out of service for English-language violations. Thousands of fraudulent CDL schools shut down. More than 30,000 improperly issued CDLs revoked.
Those aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet. Those are people who had zero business operating massive commercial vehicles on the same highways where your family drives.
I've been on the road enough to know that feeling when a semi drifts into your lane or you see one swerving. You just hope the driver knows what they're doing. Turns out, tens of thousands of them literally didn't have proper qualifications.
This crackdown isn't slowing down either. It's expanding.
So honest question: how did it get this bad? How did over 30,000 fraudulent licenses make it into circulation before anyone decided to do something about it?
